Progress on the 7
Made a blog to document my engine build. I am little bit further than the blog states, but waiting for pics. What do you think?

Giving props where props are due... Elliot White and Nick H. Nug of Turblown Engineering are doing and amazing job on this engine build.

After a nice wax, the Wife and I took her for a ride to South Mountain and snapped some shots.
Hot Start Issue..?
Everytime I take short trips in my car, it has problems starting back up. I had this problem with my last RX7, but it wasn't this bad. This car has a fuel cut switch, I am always able to get the car running reletively fast, but this shouldn't be happening on an engine with 5k!
So I took the injectors out. I had them flow tested at AZTPI.com . They were VERY knowledgeble and helpful when it came to injection systems (though the same wasn't true about rotary engines). Turns out, the injectors are fine. So it must be something with the workmanship of the engine...
DUN DUN DUUUUUNNN!!
Blew the engine after doing ONLY 110mph, and then a couple donuts with my bud McNerney. Man, is that thing dirty.
Some Junk We Found
Cracked and VERY worn rotor housing.
Busted coolant seal. This explains the coolant I had in my oil, but how did the gas get there...?
Port job done with a chisel!
Trashed Rotor. (Makes a nice paper weight at work though)
The sad thing is, this motor supposedly had 5K on a rebuild. The engine had oil and grease caked on it. There were multiple stripped bolts, electrical tape on the Turbo inlet duct, and JB Weld EVERYWHERE! Before it blew, the engine was compression tested at about 65-70 psi.
The Old Turbo
The old Series 4 turbo was pretty cracked up. I decided to ditch it and go for the Series 5. More on that later.
Pretty Clean for a Rebuild... HA HA
Just a quick glance at the nasty-ness we found in this 5k old engine.
Put Your Shades on for THIS One
This is what building a Rotary Engine is all about. BRAND NEW ROTOR HOUSINGS. Aren't they pretty.
Finally, A Real Port Job.
Now this port has a purpose and will actually help my engine breath., and it won't create over-lap or blow-by.

Enter the Series 5 Turbo
I bought this from 87 t-66 along with the Series 5 Manifold. Thanks for a well-kept turbo and a helluva deal. This is what it looked like when I got it. Not bad, but we've added some surprises to this seemingly stock turbo. All I can say at this point is, the waste gate has been ported, and the serial numbers above the waste gate door have been shaved off. The other surprise on this baby is coming soon.
A Well Balanced Engine
Elliot and Turblown sent the engine internals out to another shop for the balancing and it almost killed me. I waited 8 weeks for the balancing to get done. The shop had balanced MANY engines, but never done a rotary before. They were suprised to learn that the rotary engine can be upto 50 GRAMS off balance and still be considered 'with-in spec.' After much anticipation, I FINALLY got the internals back, and they are now with in 10 grams. This will make a supurb difference in reaching my Torque goals and even a bigger difference in the reliability of this motor.
I'd also like to point out my new ACT clutch (pressure plate shown here). Thanks Elliot. My old one was toasted, and Elliot sold me this one for a bargin. The fly wheel was balanced with the plate on it.
Speaking Of Suprises...
Recoated turbo
The Real suprise is this PolyDyn coating that most of my engine is getting. This stuff really helps with heat reduction. If you know anythign about the 13b, it's one hot engine. It can be a real pain to find an EGT gauge that will give you a good reading.
Heres how it all hooks up. Looks pretty blingin! I got this PanSpeed Down Pipe from Japan2LA. It still has quite a few miles left on it too. Along with the coating, the DP got a new bung for the EGT probe, and everything fits nicely.
Picked Up A Few Goodies
Things are starting to come together now. The Engine is nearing completion so I made a big push to get my fuel system together. I ordered this Walbro 225lph HP and the AEM Wideband from NoLimitMotorsport.com. After a night of heavy debate, I decided to go with the Lambda reading over AFR, though I am still not exactly sure what Lambda is... The 720s are from Fatty_FC3S. Haven't flow tested them yet but the wire clips look good.
Problems, Always Problems
Things were going a little too well, so my wire harness decided to crap out. This is what's left of my wire harness. I was planning on using an Rtek but now that my harness is shot, I am forced to re-evaluate. I am thinking Haltech at this point, so once the engine is built I may have to put the project on hold until I find the system I want

Wow that is a thing of beauty! I would buy a new rotor as an art peice. BTW is that turbo a stock S5 turbo?? I am assuming it is, i am going to be porting a an s5 wastegate soon, just wondering if that what it looks like. Thanks

thanks man, I cant wait to get this assebled! These rotors are actually balanced and coated, not brand new, but prob better than new. That is an S5 turbo, also coated. the porting on the wategate should allow for 15+ lbs of boost. thats why I am going methanol so I can keep the stock intercooler for now. good luck with the porting.

All Hail COATED Rotor Housings
It didn't take very long for these to get coated. The exhaust port was ported before the housings were shipped out. Now that I have these back, the motor will be assembled. I don't have any pictures yet, but I also picked up FD stationary gears. They allow more oil to get to the bearings (which are also coated). Should have picks of the gears soon.
