79 Limited RX-7?

Ok first off i know there was the Limited Edition RX-7 GSL in 1983.

However I'm in the process of buying a 79 RX-7

The lady ( a local Judge and original owner) selling it says it's a limited run 79. On the B-Pillar there is a badge saying Limited on it.

She also says that there were only 3,000 in the run. Plus she has a certificate or something about it.

I've been searching on all the info about RX-7 History esspecialy 1st gens and I CANNOT find a single bit of corrisponding info about this.

Was there a limited run of three thousand 1979 RX-7s?

If so how much are they /might they be worth?

I'm buying this one for $2,000... it's got a 13B w/ headers, Holly 4 Barrel, $4,000 paint job and custom ignition... think it's a good buy/find?

Even if there wasn't a special run I'm still buying it... I drove it today and Loved it... loved it more than my 83 GSL or my 91 MR2 Turbo

The 79 LE was available in black only. They had unique wheels, a digital clock in the dash, and special upolstery inside.
The downside to this car is, it has been modified, and will never be worth what an original unmodified 79 LE will bring.

JB - tough to judge value with no pix or better, detailed description (I mean, jeez, at least the MILEAGE!?). $2K could be a steal if its not riced up or beat to death...
Hopefully the paint is as the original Beat Black metallic - carb mod no prob, likewise ignition mod, since the 79 ignition was pretty lame. A judge with a Holley?? no ****?
Limited had:
-leather steering wheel and shift ****
-above paint
-special alloy wheels
-special radio with (!) 20wt amp (under pass seat)
-special blue cloth interior
As Rogue sez, the real value in the Limited is in its originality. Since you will buy it, post some pics after you get it then we can tell you more... heck, post pics REGARDLESS
Always love seeing SAs!

3000 is the number produced , beat black is the unique paint code ( charcoal metallic) also had the leather wrapped steering wheel , different cloth interior, digital clock in additon to the other appearance items mentioned. the rims were slightly different than all other models too.

i have one but its not as good as shape as the one in the pictures below which is mint condition and the goal of my restoration

Whoa... so the one I'm buying aside from the engine and the CD player is almost as good of condition as the one above... from what I can see in the pictures.... I can't wait to get it and snap some pictures of it.

How much is a mint on worth? (approx)

The FB wheels on the rear of the car are from my 83 GSL. The original wheels are now on my FB cuz they threw the tread. I just peeled the rubber right of the tire so i had these put on.

^^^ Look at the reflection in the hood! Beautiful paint!

^^^ Orginal Underhood stickers
