So I cut up a perfectly good 60,000 mile 1990 S5...
Well, 160hp wasnt cutting it anymore and I came across this engine for a heck of a deal. Its now totally mounted in the car (in these pics its not). The engine seems a lot lighter then the stock 13b. The car still has its stock suspension and the engine/trans does not have enough weight to bring the car to the proper ride height. This project is nowhere near complete, i still have to do all the wiring and do a lot of finishing work to make things pretty.
I cant wait to try this 6 speed trans out!! My old trans was soooo sloppy!
Next steps after finishing the install:
roll cage
suspension
I will find the weight of the car when this is finished, but progress is going somewhat slow since I'm a full time student.
Does anyone know the weight of a longblock 13b N/A?

You're def. going to get flamed for this. 1) For cutting a 60k car up, 2)Putting a Honda engine in it.
I'm interested to see how this plays out (performance wise) but, I can pretty much guarentee you that this'll be moved to Other Engine Conversions

if I was gonna do a piston motor swap it would have to be a rb series motor. dunno if it will fit though. heres how much a 13b wieghs=light enough for me to pick up in long block.

I don't know what a 13b would weigh with all the accessories and manifolds bolted up......maybe 500 pounds? beats me...why don't you just weigh the motor you pulled out - its out - get a scale.

I "lost" my emissions....
i really feel bad for the car... was there anything wrong with the old engine? why'd you swap em? i still dont see much point. ah well if you dont need the engine give it to me. ill bring it back to the road.

I like this more than a V8. I'm actually interested to see how it goes. So is this an RSX engine? Any details on your plans or what transmission you are using?
As far as the weight of an S5 longblock I would say it has to be 350-500 pounds with transmission and everything bolted to it. My S4 engine was so heavy that it took 3 guys to lift it and we were straining. I was really baffled by this because everyone talks about how light a rotary is and i'm like NO IT'S NOT.

Should be a fun conversion... S2000 motors may put out 240hp... but they have essentially no torque just like an n/a 13B.
You should think about turboing it if there is room. If the exhaust manifold is on the passenger side there should be plenty of room.
Good luck... sounds like a unique project.

A S2K engine weighs a little more than a S4 13B. 348lbs vs. 337lbs.

its actually harder to turbo the s2k motor. Its to High compression. Most ppl Super charge or pro charge them. I think its a intresting idea good luck and get us some vids of it running

This should probably be added:
But I am wondering if this includes the transmission because that could make quite a bit of difference. Are you sure the Honda engine is lighter?
Interestingly enough the Renesis engine weighs only 276 pounds, which is 100 pounds lighter than the S4 N/A engine!
*Note: All engine weights are fully dressed wet weights. So for instance, the full S5 drivetrain would include ABS pump, power steering, air pump, air conditioning and alternator.

Back to the thread though: What you doing for engine management? I think the S2K engine is an interesting swap, although the firewall modifications do not look fun.

Or even a H6, porsche FTW. Lighter, more power, and lower than either a V8 or I4.

I should wiegh it if i wasnt strewn across the country. The only things that werent on it were the PS/AC and exhaust manifold. Lifting up out of the engine bay was easy putting it down on the ground was the hard part.
To lift it up out of the bay I just took off the hood and stood on the fenders put a jack on the oil pan to slide it forward off of the tranny and just lifted with my legs. then placed it gently on the drivers fender and after about dropping it on the ground called my friend who helped me put it on the ground then carried inside and down into the basement for disasembally.
Its all in the legs. Basically if I can get a grip on it and lift with my legs I can lift some big stuff. I have maxed out every wieght machine for your legs at mautalis with one leg. I guess thats what I get for being in the marching band and on the track team.
