Glove compartment

This is a quick random question. I have a 93 touring model. My glove kinda hangs on the left side I dont know if anybody has had this problem. It kind of bothers me anybody fix that problem and if so how? I tryed adjusting the grasping point and adding pieces to it nothing worked.

Also anybody have Rx7 mats the OEM style ones (RX7 on them)

my glove box has the same problem, i fixed it a little tinkering with the grasper, this must be one of the many small problems with the 93's, so dont worry you are not alone

I have a 93 with the same problem, sometimes the light will come up indicating that the glove box is open.

Mine shuts but the light constantly stays on in there. I am just going to use the light wiring for one of my future gauges

The problems you guys r facing are small compared to my glove compartment not having a handle. I have to wedge my broken handle in and jimmy it open. I just don't keep anything in there.

my glove compartment's light also stays on even when it's "closed" so i taped some cardboard so it fully presses down that switch inside the compartment ^_^;

There was a TSB about this problem:

1. GLOVE BOX LIGHT FAILS TO GO OUT.

Service bulletin #04293 Category S, issued 10/21/93
Replace lamp cover with modified design part # FD0164170A

Info courteousy of:

http://www.rx7.org/public/3RD.html

(I don't think Mazda used cardboard though )

Yup, since I bought the car I have used a prayer my mom gave me to keep the light off in the glove. It also blesses my car and keeps my lil 7 away from any problems! : )

i recently fixed my drooping glove box. w 5 engine changes in the last 15 months, dialing in my turbosystem etc it was sort of waaay down on the things to do list.

it droops to the left because the latch is on the left.

remove the glovebox. (2 phillips head screws behind it that point upward)

you will then see the latch mechanism is loose. it is retained by 2 or 3 screws. i had to separate the 2 plastic ( inner/outer covers) pieces that make up the glove box to get at them. i tightened the screws and glued it all back together.

lots easier than pulling the motor.

For you lazy bastards using cardboard or something, at least use something that matches the glovebox material...I picked up a few of those circular pads that are fabric on one side, adhesive on the other. Barely notice they are there.

That being said, I'm going to try Howard's fix.

I'll try the black adhesive felt pads until I get a chance to do Howard Colemans fix.

I glued a gold dollar on the door itself (under the pressure switch) so the light doesn't stay on when the door is closed...still slated but looks much better when the lights not on...

The thing with tsb is that the dealership might not honor it. My friend who drives an is300 went back to the dealership because his plastic near the middle vents where all cracked from the inside so u see hair like crack on the outside (i saw 3 is300 with this problem, only one of them got fixed, the other person didn't even bother) The tech at Lexus told him it was his fault and it's cracked on the outside and blamed it on the aftermarket deck and wouldn't honor the tsb. So my friend asked how much it would cost for a new one and it was $$$$$$$. So in the end he didn't get it replaced -_-;
