YEAR ONE for the RX7???
What is it going to take to get someone to make the OEM parts that Mazda stops supplying. You can't get the drivers side door plastic for the 93. I can go out and buy a forty year old hotrod and there isn't one replacement part that I can't get my hands on. I'd hate to think our sevens will end up junk one day cause we can't get the one part necessary to make it right.
I'd like to think that with all the success of the Japanese Tuner market the last few years that we will be able to maintain these cars for quite some time.

The 1993 plastic is a special case - it has not been possible to buy this for many years (since 1995?) because the process used to coat the plastic was flawed. You can replace all the 1993 pieces with 1994+ pieces.
Every other part I have looked for (even fairly obscure ones) in the past two years has been available.
The future availability of parts depends on the demographics of future RX-7 owners. The reason 40+-year-old hot rod (or Porsche, BMW, etc.) parts are still available is that there are lots of fairly well-off people out there with money to buy them.
Unfortunately, the demographic of FD buyers seems to be heading in the direction of teenage kids who want to buy one for $10k (or get their parents to buy one for them) and can't really afford to maintain the cars.

Do you specifically mean the coated plastic pieces - I'm not sure if mazda still supplies them or not (but if they don't - the reason is because they are crap). You can still get ANY part though - helped by the fact that nearly all the parts were the same from 91 to 02. The fact that the production went to 02 means that part supply is secured for many years to come.

I resent that, Im a teen and i got my car for 11k and it had alot of problems and i spend my money to maintain it. So far it has been about $3,500-4,000 and its kickin ***. So far their are 2 teens that are like that, ME and my friend VenomXR-1 (that lives about 30 minutes from me. Please just say their are some exceptions to teens that want to rice out and blow their engines.

Anyway, AFAIK, the only common parts that are actually discontinued are the floor mats -- funny, since now you are finally getting many cars that actually need them! I hear ya though, the parts reproduction out there for older cars is amazing.

I didn't say all teenagers were like this - just that it seems to be the most likely future demographic. Very few teenagers can drop the $4k on maintenance that you have. Most seem to have parents dumb enough to buy them an FD as a first car, but not quite dumb enough to give them an allowance of several thousand dollars per year so that they can actually afford to maintain it.

This is my 3rd car, not because i wrecked them but because they were gonna cost alot more to maintain. So this is actually saving me money instead of raping me of it. I have saved up alot of money from working the past 2 summers. My dad helps with alot of the cost because he has a passion for cars also. I think i pretty much earned it to. I dont sneak off at night to do drugs and get wasted to lose my parents trust like alot of kids now days. Dont get me wrong, i do have a good time. I pay for pretty much half or all of what i get for the car. It just depends on what it is. But i do understand what you are saying. I agree. I just wanted to let all of yall to know that im not one of those "other" teenagers.

And I wouldn't go and say you earned your FD for not sneaking off and doing drugs. That's called doing what you're SUPPOSED to do

I'm 20...well almost 21, I drive my car every day, to and from work(maybe a total of 8miles max), but I agree, too many kids want these cars to put Re-Amayama wide body kits on it, or the C-West Fortune kit, blah! those kits are nasty! Just take care of your baby!(baby referring to your FD)

Nice thread jacking. That shows a lot about how mature you "teens" really are.
Anyway, back on subject.
Even though the car was produced until 2002, the problem is that it was only made in the US for 3 years. So, unless Mazda ordered a crap load of extra parts (aside from the "ten-year rule" on parts) from their suppliers, I would guess (maybe not that educated of one) that the OEM parts for the LHD cars are deteriorating.

Let's stay on topic here, this has potential to benefit all of us one day.
I realize the 93 plastic is not the plastic of choice but for a left hand drive car that was only imported for three years I fear that these cars will go as the supply chain goes. I'm putting this out there in the hopes that we don't let this happen. I want to see people capable of restoring these cars in twenty years as people are restoring cars 30 years the sevens senior. I used to own a 72 240Z, I still had the ability to purchase just about anything I needed for the car up until I moved into my first 7 (GSL-SE). The GSL-SE is a perfect example of a car made for two years that is very difficult to find parts for. Trim pieces interior and exterior, the evaporator for the AC. I cant' list everything. This in my opinion is something we as a collective group should push Mazda for. If they are not going to manufacturer the components then outsource the manufacture of the parts or sell the
I'm not trying to say "the sky is falling", I just don't want to see these cars to turn to dust because it's not profitable for the manufacturer to produce parts for them anymore.
I'd like to walk into a store similar to Motorsport Z in Orange County and buy an NOS or OEM componant for a 93 R1, 91 TII or GSL-SE.
For the parts that have been discontinued how do we get the rights to reproduce them?
For the parts that are to be discontinued how do we get the rights to reproduce them?
These are just a few questions, theres the manufacturing and capitol side to this as well.
We need to talk about this.

I would say the first objective would be to replace what you need now while the parts are available, and then take care of them so that they do last. Secondly, I know that GM reproduces some parts from the original molds for some of their really old cars. That could be an option, if you could convince Mazda to do the same ( highly doubtful). The only way to reproduce a part is to be licensed by the manufacturer, or produce a knock-off that is in some way different than the OEM piece.
