Wrinklng a UIM

Constant threat
I did the same wrinkle type finish to my UIM, LIM, TB, elbow, charge pipe, and alternator, except in black. I really like it, gives a much more "professional" appearance to the engine bay for sure, plus, it seems very durable and has held up. I used a satin clear coat as well:

nice restoration job. I sanded down the casting texture, deleted the mounting tabs and welded shut all the parts the block off plates go, I don't know why more people don't do this as it cleans up the him look a lot...
however, IMO, I would have powder coated it. I doing mine the wrinkled red but not by itself.... I think its too visuallly heavy to stand alone in a stockfish engine bay... with nothing to tie it together it looks out of place....

I think it looks nice on its own as a part sitting on the bench. I like the photos- you did a nice job
However, a big splash of red like that, (in a fairly stockish engine bay that has a lot of black rubber and black plastic lines and sandcast silver aluminum,) would look too awkward for me.
There's nothing else tying the red in, and it would stick out and not flow well.
However, if you did the strut brace bar in wrinkle red too..... Then you might have a real winner there!

damnit One more thing I want to do with my cosmo intake haha... looks good.
can this be done on the front mount intercooler?
little off topic, @chris do you really need to keep that idle control valve? I have a cosmo intake and I was wondering if I really need it as well.

Either way I'm super excited to see all this wrinkle stuff in the bay

Got to say, Crispy and Chris, I love the wrinkle movement you guys have going on. I've got it on the engine and on all the metalized plastics inside and love the finish. But mine's all black and the red looks so good. Makes me wonder what piece I could do on the engine in it... Hmmm.

Maybe you should do that nice intake plenum of yours in wrinkle red...its most fitting, specially in your car which has other red features.
