update: Loosened bolts on UIM and it holds idle... There is a leak on the exhaust side of the primary turbo, there is also oil coming out of the crack also. I pulled the UIM off and put gasket sealer on it and then put it back together and still the same thing...Tightened down=dies loosened bolts=idle

...first things first...tighten everything up...do a proper compression test...6 readings, one for each rotor face...if that checks out...resolve the primary turbo oil leak...hopefuly you will have identified or fixed the exhaust smoke or at least possibly ruled out that it's an internal problem...post the results, be explicit in your description...

Check compression on each rotor and get three psst on each one. A bolt was loose on the exhaust housing of the primary turbo and I tightened that up. Still pours smoke when its running and when I tighten down the UIM it dies. There is also a loud clanking noise when at idle, but goes away when revved up.

....get a digital camera...take a picture of exhaust smoke, remove the spark plugs and take a picture of each one and label them. ....as far as the clanking noise...using a piece of hose like 3 feet of garden hose...start the car and use the hose to listen to where the noise is coming from...you should get a cheap piston compression tester ...find the compression test link on the Robinette RX-7 site follow the instructions and get s fair estimate on compression. A chipped apex seal can cause a lot of damage and produce all of the symptoms which you are experiencing but you will never know if you don't do the test.

Exhaust smoke is like blown turbos, oil, got compression. There is no reason why my motor would blow..I was running 10 psi with a M2stageIII and 3mm apex seals...also bump for problem still not found

The fact that it runs better when you unbolt the UIM means you are either (1) not getting enough air or (2) you are getting too much gas. Case 1 would be caused if you have a major restriction somewhere in your intake system. If I were you I would take off the intake hose that goes from the intercooler to the throttle body elbow and see if that does anything. This way, you will eliminate the possibility of having a severly clogged intake (filter, turbos, whatever).

If you take the hose off and it still is not idling and blowing out smoke, then you probably have a leaking injector, or something else is causing excessive fuel to be injected.

As a follow up to this topic, here are reasons the engine smoked and wouldn't "stay alive":

1) no oil on dipstick

2) no compression on front rotor

3) spun bearing on front rotor due to lack of oil

4) no side or corner seals on the front rotor, due to play in the bearing and slapping the irons

5) scorching and cracking on all 3 irons

6) front rotor apex seals pinched in grooves due to rotor slap

7) e-shaft scorched.

Keep a check on your oil leaks and levels kids...
