Uhh...I'm pretty sure the oil pressure gauge has a buzzer on it. How'd you miss THAT? And you shouldn't be driving around based on the oil pressure gauge that kinda sorta tells you...well...not much lol. You should be checking your oil levels regularly, *especially* since rotaries normally burn oil!!

the only way i could concievably seeing someone run out of oil is if their oilpan nut comes loose and all of their oil spills out when they're driving. you have to like not even look at your dipstick for half a year to run out of oil

Mine runs great and has been for years...pretty fast too

I was thinking the exact same thing Dave posted about...and agree with 100% Kyle, if you don't know who I'm talking about, you've probably got an FD with minor issues and post things like "HELP!! My car isn't running right, whats wrong with it" then bump it again and again, etc, etc.

sucka's

Hello Mr. Ramy,

with a new sending unit the stock oil pressure gauge works perfectly fine, I rely on mine every time I'm in the car . I am pretty sure that there is no buzzer on the oil px, only for low coolant.

To add to some of what is in this thread, I have seen 3 FDs over the years cook motors due to stock exploding ASTs, and also have popped a motor due to a bad tank of 93 octane at an exxon station (one where I used to pump gas back in high school too, what a kick in the nuts!).

On my FD, all this was done 9k miles ago:

ported and built motor with all new OEM internals
new BNR turbos
professionally rebuilt tranny with all new OEM internals (synchros, bearings etc)
new OEM engine wiring harness
And a host of other performance mods, to include a 3 bar map sensor and oil catch can.

My FD has ran and driven great ever since, no leaks, drips, smoke, nothing. This includes a trip from TX to NJ and constant 16-17 psi 8200 rpm pulls

These are complex used cars and they must be properly maintained. The basket case cars are always created by inept owners who don't pay to have work performed properly or worse (wrongly) decide they have the knowledge to fix it themselves and screw the car up more by creating new problems that shouldn't even exist. The majority of the "what's wrong with my car?" posts in this section are posted by people who have no business with a wrench in their hands.

I knew absolutely zero about FD's before I purchased mine but you can learn a hell of a lot just from Robbinette's and Ciriani's sites. I stumbled onto those by searching the internet and even now most of the questions around here could be answered just by reading those "old" sites.

LOL Hey Mr. Rich I think you're right about there being only a rev and oil buzzer...I prob confused that w/ the warning light, which I only noticed by accident when I was low on fuel. IIRC, there's an oil pressure warning light too, right?

Oh and I'm glad to hear the stock oil pressure gauge isn't completely worthless... it's just old hehe. I thought it was total trash when it would show an oil pressure of about 0 when I'm idling LOL (and the Defi gauge obviously showed a lot more pressure...)

Nope. The idiot light on the oil pressure gauge is for the oil level sensor. There's already a gauge that reads oil pressure, no sense in having an idiot light for it too.

Damon, isn't the oil pressure a function of the oil level?
