why don't fds have vin numbers on major body panels?
only 4 vin locations on fds? firewall, dash, doors(?)
i just picked up a 95 miata and it has vin stickers all over. eg. fenders etc etc
also, anyone have a picture of the door vin? i think mine are missing.

The FD does have a VIN stamped somewhere into the body itself, I believe up in the tranny tunnel somewhere.
Years ago I was at the shop when I was surprised by a task force coming in early saturday morning to inspect cars.....I told them go ahead as we were legitimate and had nothing to hide. They found one FD with no VIN on the dash or under the hood, so towed it away despite my efforts to the contrary.
Of course the owner was beside himself, luckily they found another 'hidden' VIN and returned the car.

- Driverside firewall
- Driverside dash
- Sticker on the door sill (not sure that counts).
Any others?
Since I sold my original dash and the idiots at the first chassis shop I hired cut the one off the firewall I'm very interested in this subject

Like I mentioned up above, there is definitely another VIN hidden in the chassis. I'll see if I can make some phone calls and find the info.

That in my opinion is a theft deterrent as much as a battery shut off switch.

It is a common theft deterrent. In fact, many insurance companies used to give discounts to policy holders who had this done.
A battery switch is a theft inhibitor, as it cannot be seen. Vin's on the glass will deter rather than inhibit.
