why do you think it is that so many people stop and take pics of your FD?

hehe this thread is so great
i love when young boys screaming AAAA this is RX7!!
they know him from Need for speed series. In our country is not too much seven so every time when i pull this on the street. i see their happy face
But as someone said here, someone is often disappointed when I say that it's Mazda.
i am still in love with my stock seven
this is my first photo and my FIRST live close look on rx7 in my life.
In a few days I bought it
it's simply one of the nicest car on the planet.

Your defensive post is confusing in itself, because you sound brainwashed.
We're talking about people who stop to take pictures of the fd, why mention the rotary engine and what the "rx7" means? That's irrelevant to what's being discussed. But you're probably using that as ammunition so people can come and side with you.
Also the other cars I mentioned. Yes you're right. No one would care cause its a dime a dozen and will see one going home. You're right. That just furthers my point. People see rarity and looks. That's why they stare and take pics. Uhh that was part of this thread???? Lol duh.
As far as expensive cars. I'm not blind. I know this market. I been here longer than you. There are obviously a good handful of people who have pristine fd's. Some people who put 20,30 or even 40 grand into their car. Guess what? That doesn't make them valued at 50k +.
How much is your fd worth? A new civic ex is a shade over 20. Is yours worth that? Didn't think so.
Look at the FS section and count how many fd's going for over 20 and being sold for that amount LOL.
k thanks.

I mention the rotary because it is a big part of what makes it rare! IMO people tie the two together. When Im at a car show or meet people always ask isnt that the one with the rotary engine.
You are blind if you cant see where the economy has left the car market. Are you not aware of what type of credit you must have to get a 20k loan on a 1994 vehicle? You are correct in the I spent 20k-40k in my vehicle so it must be worth 50k people. They are out of touch with reality. I giggle every time I see them try to justify their prices in the FS section.
My FD is worth however much someone is willing to pay for it. My last FD (the one in my avatar) sold for over the starting price of a Civic EX and it only lasted on Auto Trader for two weeks.
How much have you sold one for???

What I'm saying is the rotary engine wasn't mentioned in this thread til you brought it up. At least stay on topic.
You can sell yours for 50k, doesn't mean that's what it's worth. One fd going for an outrageous price doesn't categorize the car under that price range.
Me? I haven't sold my fd. Don't need to to know the market because I'm not blind. I see people buy and sell their cars for a decade now.
If i were to sell mine. Ill probably get 13k. MAYBE. And i put about 15-20k into it over the years.
The reason why its hard to get a loan for a 20 year old car because its financially retarded to do that.
If you can't afford a 20 year old car outright, don't get it.
Lol @ getting a 20k loan for a 20 year old car. Now I know what kind of guy I'm dealing with here lol..

^Don't feed the troll, its only here to bicker and bitch about everything like it's some sort of fact.
As to be constructive and answer the original question, its definitely the looks. The FD is already one of the prettier cars on the road but comparing it to some of the hideous designs of today is laughable.

I've never had someone stop and take pictures of my car, but I have had a handful of people approach me about it. It's DEFINITELY a rare car. I've seen 3 rx7s before I bought mine. Saw my first one in 2009 at a car show in CA, second one on the highway in NC, and third one was my own. Two recently popped up on base but one is all beat and has a silver hood, the other one doesn't even run...
The FD is a beautiful car. As for expensive, I paid $14.7k for mine, 39k all original second owner. It booked for 16,900 so navy federal wrote me a check the same day. I thought I would never be able to get a loan for one. As long as you know where to look its not hard. As for having to be rich to own one, not necessarily. I would not have been able to own one prior to joining the military but I don't exactly have the money to build it like I'd want to. After I pay it off maybe .
I love my FD. Love to drive it, work on it, wash it, baby it and beat it. Can't wait for my motor to blow so I can rebuild it. Maybe I'm weird. Maybe I'm in love

I believe the reason for the all the attention is the beauty, reputation (awesome sportcar), and rarity as to see one on the road is few and far in between.
The car always got attention but after I painted my car yellow I got some real ape **** reactions. People chasing me down, vigorously giving the thumbs up, yelling out the window, video taping, I've even seen people take pictures of themselves standing next to my car lol. The attention is insane even to the point that it's a little bit unconfortable.
Contrary to popular belief I painted my car yellow not for the attention but rather because I love yellow sportcars. In fact, I long for the days prior to FnF when hardly anyone knew what kind of car this was. Now those days were awesome.

I actually had an fd a decade ago and found a free 20b so I dropped that in. Then sold it. I made 60 grand at Barrett Jackson!!! It was amazing.

Sir Braps A lot
i believe people take pictures because the simple beauty of our cars, also that its a 20 year old design that looks good even with its age. a lot of people my FD is a 2000 something then i tell them its a 1993 they are amazed that it was for sale in the early 90's. its not like a mustang where you can tell the generations apart or the time era it came from.

It's definitely the design. Look at new cars everything has become sharp angles and creases (even Ferrari's, Lamborghini's etc..). Nothing on the road looks like it, smooth and flowing design. When people see it they know it is something different something special.
When the FD and original Miata came out one of the magazines wrote that someone at Mazda's styling studio must have gotten a book about 50's and 60's British Sports Cars and used it as inspiration for the designs.

Mine is in pieces in the garage right now and both the UPS and Fedex guys have stopped by while the garage was open to ask questions and take pictures of my progress lol.
The day I drove it home, three of my neighbors stopped by and asked what the hell the car was. The car wasn't stock when I bought it so I can see that maybe the vertex kit may have confused them. But, once I told them what it was, they suddenly realized.
We then proceeded to talk cars over a 30 pack and I wound up not going to work that day.
Needless to say, there are far less of these cars on the road than anything else similar to performance and current value which makes it rare in comparison. To see an FD roll by on the freeway or at an intersection, I don't think anyone can't help but to stare...$10k or not.

If these cars didn't have any exterior badging, most people wouldn't know what kind of car they are nor would they care. They just like how sexy they are. They are like a smoking hot woman, you can't help but stare. They don't care about soul, that's the owners concern. It's all about sex appeal.

When I autocross my near mint FD, I get more sweaty overweight bastards wanting to ride along than anybody else with any other kind of car. Lots of new GTRs, Porsche, Loti, Ms, S4, NSX. Some people take pictures, the announcer always mentions the beautiful 3rd gen RX7. People mention how nice it is to see a stock-ish Rx7. Im not bragging about the car, the origional owner took excellent care but people in the autocross world really seem to.appreciate it.

IMO people take pics of rare cars no matter what they cost. I recently got a veloster for a dd. People take pics of that! I too will chase down or try to catch up with new models.

The more guys like you who take them to autocrosses and road race them etc.... the more the reputation will continue to become that of LEGEND!!!!!!
There's never been a car like it and there will never be another one like it which can only mean one thing.................IT'S A CLASSIC .........THAT'S RIGHT lets take this thread where it's headed in a timely manner

Funny you mentioned that, my fiancé and I had our engagement shoot couple days ago, we had our photographers came to our house so we can all go out in the Mazda3. When they came over I opened up the garage, and one of them instantly point at the FD and said "Wow that's a classic right there", then started to check out the car

I constantly get either "nice car. What is it?" Or "Holy S***, sweet FD!" My car is beat. The poor thing sat outside from '05 until this year when I bought it and started the resurrection.

Its combination of these things:
- Outstanding shape of the exterior - timeless
- Aggressive look - with some 285+ in the back
- Nice interior , btw I can not stand supras interior
- low profile
- RWD
- Rarity
- Rotary Engine
- Most of them are modified and that adds up.
- Most of them are loud and that draw attention.
What is there not to like? Why Mazda did not put 3 rotor engine in it? We would not have to run so much boost.
In good shape RX7 should be valued lot higher than 10-11k. 18-19k would be reasonable for such beautiful car..
