I have about 143,000 miles on my 1993 VR. Still on the first tranny, but I don't think it's going to last much longer. Delicate car, but I still love it.

Whaaa?? That would definitely be a record. Rumor had it that one guy had drove into a dealership w/ 160K on original engine and turbos...but 180K??? DAMN. My hat's off to him...

my last FD had 195k on the chassis! It was just as tight as any other low mileage FD ive owned. Of course, it wasnt on the original engine.

There was a thread on this about a year ago. I had my first Fd with 135k on the original motor. It still has the original motor with over 150k. There was a guy that has over 200k with the original motor on that thread.

I know Stefan and I talked to him about a week ago. He told me 160K+ on the original motor, and the turbos were rebuilt. Still, that's a LOT of mileage either way. He's still running the stock pre-cat and his only mod is a catback exhaust. Proves all the people wrong who say that FDs are unreliable.

I think the existance of the FORUM *proves* FDs are unreliable LOL Besides, I also think the vast majority would agree that the FD is quite reliable in stock form. It becomes very unreliable when modified however...

Not the way you hear some people talk on this forum. They make it sound like the FD is the biggest POS to ever hit the road!

To add to your statement, FDs are reliable stock, but also when well-maintained, and not having had the **** driven out of them.

I agree. I think even a professionally (i.e. well done) modded FD if taken good care of and not driven like a bat out of hell every chance you get will last you just as long as a Honda.

Makes my 50k before rebuild and 18k before o-ring failure look pretty bad. If I could only get 100k out of a 13brew I would have probly put one back in my FD.

No. I made that statement in the context of what wasn't said, but what "FDNewbie" and I alluded to later in the thread - stock (or near-stock), well-maintained FDs can be reliable cars, which is not the general concensus here nor is it its reputation. Fair enough?

I wouldn't say that one engine that made it to 160k would mean that every FD were that reliable.

But I agree that if a car is well maintained it can last even if it is an RX-7. Once you start modifying a car (other then reliability mods) and pushing it beyond the limits it was meant to be pushed the engine life will be decreased.

I myself am at 94k with original engine and turbos.

Okay...that comment *definitely* did not help our point lol. Ppl being happy that nothing's broken yet after 14K miles...my God...what do you think the FD is...a Pinto in disguise?? (Jimlab, don't even answer that lol)

See, there's your problem. I just don't know of anyone who buys an FD to baby it. I'm sure there are ppl like that...I've seen them occassionally...the old white haired guy you pass on the highway doing 45 in a 55 on the right lane in his "sporty zippy car." I'd venture to say he may very well have never seen 10psi in the 10 years he's owned the car. But that's a very VERY tiny percentage of FD owners. The vast majority beat the living CRAP outta their cars every time they drive them - me included. So given that, just how reliable do you expect it to be?? And that's keeping in mind it's being strained considerably to put out practically double the hp it was made to handle. The answer: Not very.

I'd say on average the motor life of the 13b-rew is around 80k give or take, and considering who owned it and how well maintained it was. In Bruce Turentines video he said that he had yet to see a 13b-rew make it past 100k. I think if you know how to take care of one you can get 100k+ though. N/A rotaries are very reliable though if thats any consilation for the FD being unreliable. I still love em'

Mine has around 166k on chassis and had around 140k on the original motor before it was rebuilt.

I have to disagree on this. FD it is reliable a car, but it need a good care of it. my last motor last 130K before I rebuild(it still run good, but do it any way when I decide to put single it to my FD).

I baby MY FD a lot . I dont really drive at day time( too hot and make car run too slow), or rain( to danger to drive a 460 HP car at rain). and when I do drive it I dont "beat the living CRAP outta the car " First I will got arrest any way. Sec Drive fast in the street/Hight way is not fun for me any more, If you drive In Road course once. you will never want to drive fast again on street/high way too boaring.

You don't think the beating the car takes at the road course makes up for your babying on the street? The speeds you reach, the strain you put on the car plowing it through the turns, one after the other...that's babying it? I know what you mean... I absolutely LOVE road courses. But I think they put just a wee bit more strain on our cars than anything we could ever do on the road...dontcha think?

Oh and you and I can agree or disagree, but that has no effect on the FACT that the majority of FD owners put their car through a LOT very often. Why do you think people are cautious/paranoid about buying FDs from the forum? Cuz they know it's been given a good beating...
