Whooshing Sound During Deceleration

93 RX7 Manual:
Hi everyone maybe you can help. I am getting a whoosing sound when I let up on the gas. This usually happens during an aggresive acceleration. In other words if I step on the gas and let up on the gas to shift gears or whatever I will immediately hear a whooshing sound (kind of like air is escaping) when I let up on the gas. Anybody have any ideas????

Let me look that up thanks. I am new to this car. If it means anything I just had the Air box apart today because I was replacing my water pump. Maybe I didn't connect it correctly? I didn't make this noise before.

Nothing taken the wrong way. I am just not understanding what I did wrong. I just took the air box apart to have enough room to get to the water pump. Did I mess something up and kill something when I took the air box apart? What do you think happened? Is this definately a blow off valve problem?

Heres what to do.........go to your car, pop your hood, look at your airbox (assuming its stock) follow the 2 black lines that go from the back of the box to the things that look like whistles....thats your blow off valves.....make sure that those two lines are securley fastened on the little nipples that are on the blow off valves.....if they arent connected that will make the blow off valves louder. Its called venting it to the atmosphere. People do this to get that Woooshing noise louder, instead of buying an aftermarket BOV (blow off valve)....Use this forum as a helping hand, but try and use the SEARCH option at the top of the toolbar, as much as possible, and when all else fails ask the question, or else people around this place will get on your case. Learn as much as possible and only believe half of what you read on here..........

All blow off valves make whoose noises upon decel because they let boost out of the system. They protect the turbos from compressor surge that builds up when the throttle plates slam shut. This makes them respond better and last longer.

The factory plumbs the stock valves back into the air box to keep them quiet. Most people like to hear theirs, so they open air vent them, or put on louder aftermarket ones that vent to atmosphere.

There are 2 1" diameter hoses going into the airbox on the passenger side, each for a valve. One of them is loose or off the box. Simply replace it and you're good to go. Having it open air vented doesnt change how it operates or alter how the car runs, it just makes it louder.
