Who Daily Drives their FD?

I was just wondering is it hard to maintain a Daily Driven FD?

I drove daily for 3 years while I was in the UK and will again when I get back in December. Used it to commute to work daily. Had no issues, just did the normal service items, like oil and filters and gave it full revs every time I took it out for about 30 seconds to keep the carbon build to a minimum

I think a lot of FD owners CAN daily their cars but choose not to...opting for a beater as their daily and saving the FD for weekend warrior activities whether that is track or street cruising.

My old neighbor had an FC that was pushing 180K on the original motor..sounded like a champ, was smooth. All she did was regular maintenance but was strict about always doing it...and never really getting on the gas either.

Any car..."take care of it and it'll take care of you"

I think there is already a thread on this subject, so search next time? However, I guess it's probably outdated...

Anyway I semi-daily drive my FD here in Manhattan/Brooklyn. I say semi-daily because I ride the subway or walk at least 1/2 the time and drive the other 1/2.

Some people hate driving in New York City, but I gotta say, if you know how to avoid rush hour traffic and which alternate routes are available, driving can be a lot of fun around here. There's really nothing quite like an early morning/late night 2nd gear pull on a wide open Manhattan street - the sound echoing off the buildings is amazing.

i've been daily driving mine for 3 years now and will continue
as for maintaining the FD, depends on your car's current condition or how much money you have ready to be spent on it, or if you're mechanically able

+1

I semi-daily drive it too, but my drive to work is less that 2 miles at a speed no more that 25mph. I only do it to keep the "fluid flowing" in her. Mine has never seen rain or snow. When I lived in Va. I would not drive during the winter because there is always salt on the roads.

I daily drove my first FD for 3 years and have done the same with my current one for close to 2. A car this fantastic shouldn't spend its life sitting around it should be enjoyed as much as possible.

FD's are very reliable. The key is to maintain it properly and keep it near stock. Its us the owners that make them unreliable with all the mods that we do.

I daily drove mine for years because I couldnt bring myself to drive my other cars.

I've been DD mine since I bought it last November. I am trying to pick up a beater though. The only thing the car's gave me trouble with was the fuel pump went bad. Other than that it's been fine.

My biggest issue is gas consumption, and road conditions where I live. The other thing is that it's very very difficult to constantly modify it and keep the car clean if it's your DD because you always need to have it ready to run by the next day. But as far as reliability goes, it's just like any other car.

Did it for 2 weeks while shopping for my FC.

I did not like it..... and my car is very streetable with A/C. The way people park, getting dirty, and the weather was the most annoying things.

I've been DD'ing my car for 3-1/2 years in NYC, never had a problem with it besides regular maintainence items like a fuel pump, starter, etc. Gas mileage and bad roads are the worst part of driving the car everyday.

This is what daily driving your car gets if you live in an urban/metropolitan area:

Parking scars!

Yep, DD here as well. It's so hard to not want to drive it daily anyway, but I think the time has come for a beater. It's getting old with the rednecks wanting to race all the time. Hell I can't even get gas without someone pulling up saying "Nice car, wanna race my brothers Cheville" :/

DD my FD since I've had it. No issues, just regular maintenance and the FD 100 point inspection once in awhile. Probably as much for my well being as it is for the FD. haha

Yeah thats a maintainence item. The car is 18 years old so you should change that. Besides, its easier to change than the fuel filter is and thats considered maintainence.
