i just get regular autozone engine degreaser, it did the job pretty good, not really clean like i've seen others but maybe ill try that kaboom stuff, never heard of it though.
i remember like 6 years ago, they had this bootleg ghetto cereal out called kaboom, my mom bought it one day and it tasted GREAT! my neighborhood used to play basketball outside and everytime we made a shot, we would say, "its gotta be the kaboom!!" lol

Castrol Super cleaner or whatever it's called, it's in a big purple bottle, smells like nailpolish remover, and will take stink off of poop. That stuff made the engine bay of my 86 RX-7 look like a really clean engine bay from an 86' RX-7 Seriously though, it'll take everything off, including the oil that was burnt onto my hood.

simple green
if you're worried about it harming aluminum, whether that is actually true or not, just drive around for awhile once you're done cleaning. the heat from an FD will be sure to burn off anything left

I've also heard the simple green can stain aluminum. I read somewhere simple green them selves stated this. I wouldn't take the chance use something else

Steam only loosens the material however; you still need to have something to remove it. I recommend Advance Auto Parts brake parts cleaner - in the red can. This stuff is the best general solvent in the world (I've tried CRC, you name it - even stuff that's now illegal) - and the best part, it's nonflammable. I know, because I tried to set **** on fire with it, and then I realized that the can said "nonflammable". I buy it by the case.

All right, here's a really stupid idea I just thought of...how about using a pressure washer after letting the engine soak in something akin to Simple Green Auto Degreaser? Has anyone tried this? What did you use to ensure no water got into the electronics?
Just a thought

I'll have to give Kaboom a try, but for now, Castrol Super Clean gets my vote. It's only 6 bucks for a gallon of it at Walmart.
I used it to clean an engine that I yanked at a junkyard. This thing was a roach...covered in layers of dirt/grease/grime. When I got done with it and took it to the machine shop for boring/honing, the shop thought that I had already had it hot-tanked.

I'm a big fan of Super Clean - I've never ceased to be amazed at what that will do.
My new cleaning combo is the Armor All orange cleaning wipes and Armor All wipes. Clean with one, shine with the other. I recently bought an '87 base for $300 that was HELLA dirty - I used that for the whole car, inside and under the hood. Really cleaned up good.
I gotta try some Kaboom, though . Where do you get that? Dunno if I've ever seen it.

i dont like castrol superclean for the reason that it IS pretty harsh. if youre using it on a pulled engine. . . yeah, go ahead. . . but as far as engine bays go. . . kaboom. i left that stuff on there forever and it had no ill effects.
i havend used superclean in a while, but i remember reading on the bottle that youre NOT to leave it on for a long time. . . or something like that.
