Arrow What should I do with my alternator? Rebuild, buy a reman, or an OE from Mazda?

My alternator is down for the count -- and I need to replace it somehow. I suppose my options are to either have it rebuilt at a local shop ($130), buy a remanufactured unit ($230 for a Bosch), or to buy a new unit from Mazda (my kidney). I know of a lot of people who have had bad experiences with remanufactured units (dying after a few months) with modular Ford motors. What do you guys reccomend I should do?

Are you sure about that? The last time I checked, that doesn't apply to alternators nor any electrical parts.

I got mine fixed (not rebuilt) for like $50. It was a nice alternative to spending $250 from an autoparts store.

I would have it rebuilt by a local shop.

I'm itching to drive my car, so I don't think I could wait ~2 weeks. Plus, if I got it ceramic coated, it would be flat black -- and that wouldn't be very fun.

Another quick question -- what is it that really wears down in the alternator that will need to be rebuilt?

Has anyone had experience with the rebuilds from Mazdaformance (http://www.mazdaformance.com/Merchan...egory_Code=492)? They seem to have a pretty good deal.
