the koyo is bigger and has slight fitment issues for some people(aka dremmel work)
the fluidyne "flows better" and fits perfect
everythin else I dunno
Im running the fluidyne and I love it.

If its not an r1 you might want to look into getting the stock dual oil cooler setup.

Cool, I meant to say the koyo has more capacity. It holds more water than the fluidyne, but I've heard fluidyne users retort by saying the fluidyne is of better design. Koyo now has a triple pass radiator which sounds cool. Im not sure how it works but it sounds interesting and expensive.

Go to the above link and simply purchase the stock replacement radiator. Perfect fit, and it far exceeds the stock unit. Save your bucks for other mods....there is NO good reason to buy a FLUIDYNE or KOYO unless you are racing your car or doing something else that will cause such excessive heat-soak that a "normal" radiator becomes overwhelmed.

Most people that buy the high dollar radiators do it simply because they think it is "cool"...no pun intended. It is the "Hey, I just spent $500 on a KOYO so I am sure that means my car will go at least 10 mph faster now, right?" mentality....just like putting a go-fast window sticker or decal on.

Seriously, there are a helluva lot of people on this board with cars making big hp that are using stock radiators, it has been proven to be more than adequate. The only real disadvantage to the stock MAZDA unit is the plastic construction...it WILL fail sooner or later.

Just go spend the $175 on the stock replacement unit and plunk the savings down on something that will TRULY benefit you.

Thanks Bajaman! I'm looking to upgrade my rad too. Do you think it's worth it to buy the $220.00 model(from the above link) and since it's a bit bigger would it require "shoe horning" it to get it to fit in the car? Thanks!

That one should be about the same size as a Fluidyne.

Not familiar with the $220.00 radiator but It may be worth looking into it. I will tell you this though, I purchased and installed a Fluidyne radiator and love it. The welds look and is a direct drop in although for some reason on my setup (other have had the same problem) I had to modify the sock air box to avoid compressing the upper water hose.

One more thing I would recommed you do while upgrading your cooling system is to replace all the hoses... and yeah there is an *** load of them. You can buy this whole kit from Ray at Malloy Mazda. One last thing I did and love it too was to upgrade the thermoswitch to an FC. You can get this from Ray also. You may not need this mod if you have an upgraded computer or some sort of fan mod.

Good luck and believe me it will be money well spent. The thermoswitch on my car allows the fans to kick on high speed around 185 degrees or so. Before in a hot summer day the coolant would get up as high as 226 and now 200 max. Replacing it was easy for me since I redid all the vac. hoses and had removed the water pump housing.

Good luck on your choices.

^ Yes, the FC thermoswitch is just a fantastic mod to do! It really should be mandatory....

I can only recommend the stock replacement unit, as that is what I have. And while it is a perfect fit, it is JUST enough larger that anything bigger would have had a fitment issue.

This has always been one of those FD 'mysteries' to me. Why some people can put a KOYO or FLUIDYNE or other aftermarket radiators in and have NO trouble...zero...nada, and yet others have nothing BUT trouble and heartache trying to get one to fit!

**** like this is what will reduce me to tears of frustration....like a bolt that should take 30 seconds or less to get off that ends up taking you ALL ******* DAY LONG because it is stripped or stuck or whatever.
