Don't think it's really that picky. Last time I need PS fluid on my '88 turbo I used Valvoline Synthetic. Seemed to like it just fine .

Use ATF. It's the same stuff (even the Mazda manual says to use ATF), and it is cheaper.

It is pretty much the same, but I just feel more comfortable using real PS fluid. Considering it's still dirt cheap, I'd rather make sure to use the right thing than save a buck or two.

In some systems ATF causes noise when the car is cold/ during cold waether. A lot of newer cars went to ATF because of cost savings, not performance improvement. I just replaced my rack today, and I'll be filling with synthetic fluid tomorrow (whichever brand is locally available).

yeah right, i hate manual steering. I've taken the A/C out of cars, removed all emissions, put solid engine/tranny mounts, etc; but I'll never give up the PS.

Instead of starting a new thread...

So I'm low on power steering fluid in the FD (yes I know I have a minor leak, but I don't feel like addressing it now when the engine's on it's way out anyways. Plus it's a VERY slow leak). So yea, I go to the local Mazda stealership today to get some power steering fluid, and sure enough, they hand me a huge bottle of ATF lol. I asked for genuine Mazda PS fluid. They go back, check, and say they don't have any. The offered me some Nissan PS fluid, and I was like wutever...forget it. At which point they said I could order it. I was like ok whatever...they ask how much I want. I say one bottle. The guy tells me I gotta order a case cuz they're outta stock so they have to order a case too... (same thing I ALWAYS hear from them...all the small random parts I need, they wanna make me order them by the dozen). So naturally, I say no thanks, and give Ray @ Malloy a call. Left him a voicemail (need some oil filters too). I may go w/ the Mazda brand, but if it's a prob, the Valvoline Synthetic you guys recommend should be fine... is this the one you guys are using? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...partnumber=056 Cuz I can pick that up from the local parts store, and yes, they sell them individually

I don't want to use this one http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...rtnumber=VV335 which has the "Stop leak" function in it, b/c from what I've read, that stuff causes gaskets to swell up, and in effect causes them to completely deteriorate/disintegrate later on down the road.
