What Makes The FD So Quick?

Ok, so I've been reading a hell of a lot of stuff about 400 hp fds taking out vipers and stuff and 360hp fds taking out cars that are in the 450s range. I know these cars are light, but will 200-300 lbs really make that much of a difference in top end? Is it the gearing of the car that makes it so quick? Even in stock form, it's pretty often I'll hear and fd take out a car that's in the 260+ range pretty easily. What makes the car so quick?

it's not 200-300 lbs less than most cars it's like 700-800lbs less. The answer to your question is pretty complex. What makes a car what it is? Suspension geometry, gear ratios, chassis design, aerodynamics, etc. And as a general rule, the rx will be as fast as a vr4, 300z, or supra with easily 100 less hp. I think the real answer is because THE 7 CAN'T LOSE!!!!

this is true as red paint weights the least out of any other color when weighing cans of paint.

you guys are fooling youselfs....

the REAL reason is..... We have to spend so much money keeping them running we cant afford to eat. so we are all ethiopian skinny.that makes us hella light and areodynamic. we all weigh under 50lbs. and our arms are so skinny they cut through the wind so we can shift hella fast..

Our HP to weight is very favorable. Also a Viper puts down about 425rwhp hp in GTS form. A 400rwhp FD has no problem keeping up. Don't compare RWHP with BHP. They aren't the same.

Back then even the aluminum NSX stil weighs more slightly more than an FD. The key is of course that Wankel's creation, other than the design itself

seriously though. its just the fact that our car weighs like 500-1000lbs less than most other sports cars. obviously weight is a HUGE factor. havent you heard stock civics run 10s after removing the back seat?! the car is made of steel foil, which happens to be lighter than the nsx aluminum foil.

True but try running the civic at speeds the FD is capable of (160+mph), the guy in the civic must have ***** of steel. On a racetrack the FD would eat it too even if it has the same power. Just my thoughts, anyway. The civic would also have a hard time putting all that turbo power to the front wheels.

The HP ratio of a rotary engine is not like a piston engine...like if you had 2 similar cars in weight, and body and both had 250hP one with a rotary and the other with a piston, the rotary will win..it may have 250HP but in the rotary world it = more than a piston. this is due to the design of the car....

It's really quite simple. Rx-7 drivers press harder on the pedal. Havn't you watched the Fast and the Furious?? Step harder, go faster!
