Cool What kind of race gas to use?

I have a 5gal can of Sonoco 100oct Premium unleaded. I was told that was the highiest "super" unleaded and the higher ratings are leaded. I'm scared of using a leaded gas. I am going to have some more delivered and wondered if I should just stick with the same stuff.

100's ok , if you plan on running leaded, plan on replacing cats and o2s
or you can just remove the cat and still need to replace the o2 quite often..

The absolute best unleaded gas available is VP Racing MOTORSPORT 109.

I will ask about VP 109 thanks but isn't it leaded?

Car is in Mazdatrix (thanks John for the trick sleeper work) but awaiting manifold from A-Spec.

I've used 100 cool blue from Sonoco. I can't remember what else they had at Road Atlanta, 110 and 116 I think. The 110 I thought was unleaded, but not being sure and it not stating it on the pump, I just used the 100. Knock never was higher than 55 during the seesions at the track. Mine never was 100% 100 octane. I had about 1/2 tank of 93 when I filled up with the 100, then after the first day, I had a little over 1/2 a tank to start the 2nd day and filled up again with the 100.

Lupe - Thanks for the info... http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp_01_fuels.html#unleaded

The C10 looks really good. I'm not shure if I would need the 109. I am hoping for a dual tune, 15lbs and 25lbs. I can get any (brand/oct) of the fuels, as my sister works for an oil company up north.

You guys need to look at the motor octane. That's the number you would see at the pump. Most companies advertise their "Research Octane" which is usually a much higher number.

See this chart http://www.racefuels.com/compchart.htm

^ oh ok, then streetblaze 103 is better then C10. What is the deal with oxygenated or not?

Oh, I have a mid pipe (no cat) but I don't want to damage the O2 sensor nor the tuner's wideband sensor. I will check the can and post what I have when I get home.

Ack, ok I tried to get VP but they only sell Sonoco now. They may have one can of the StreetBlaze 103, but they have to physically search. Does being old affect the octane?

Here is what I can get:

260 FR 102 (MON 90) designed for highly stressed turbo engines. For Off-Road Use Only.

260 GTX 104 (MON 94) It does not harm sensors used in fuel injection systems. For Off-Road Use Only.

260 GT 100 (MON 95) street legal, unleaded gasoline designed for high performance street cars. no metallic compounds to harm catalytic converters or oxygen sensors. contains a comprehensive additive package for greater engine protection and reduced fuel system deposits.

260 GT Plus 109 (MON 99) is specifically formulated for the professional racer and should not be used on the street. For Off-Road Use Only.

Is the off road stuff safe for the dyno and possible street tunes?
What does oxygenated mean?
is the offroad unstable like nitromethane or just alot more polution?
Do I even need higher then 95MON for 25lbs max boost?

Agreed. I used to think Sunoco had some pretty good stuff, but the VP unleaded is definitely superior.

Only if the container has been opened, or if the stuff has been sitting for longer than a couple of years.

If you don't have a cat, then yes, but those unleaded race fuels contain oxygenates and other compounds that aren't the safest to be around for extended periods of time.

It's a chemical compound additive that adds oxygen molecules to the fuel composition that aids in increasing combustion.

More pollution.

That depends on a lot of other factors. Your intake temps, ignition timing, etc.
