its the differnt trim levels of 3rd generation RX-7's (93-95) the touring is the package with the leather and bose acoustical sound system, the r1 and r2 were the performance packages, they had cloth seats, upgraded suspension, and ect,

There is very little meaningful 'upgrades' of the R1 and r2, unless you take yours to the track.
Even then, most of the items are added to my touring anyways, including strut bar, ugraded aftermarket springs and shocks, Sparco Carbon/Roadster seats.
The R1/2 does have an extra oil cooler, but that's not too difficult to add, and come stock with the lip spoiler and rear trunk spoiler. Again, those things can be added, and were a dealer option so you might find Tourings with them.
Someone else earlier pointed out that R1/2s have a front brake cooling duct intergrated with the front lip. You can get a much more effective unit (at least thats what is said) here: http://www.crookedwillow.com/brakes.htm
Touring has the xtras of a sunroof, Bose sound system, cruise, extra sound deadening, and other small things at a penalty of 62 lbs.
