If you could install all that and tune the car for 1300 dollars, thats pretty damn good.
I thought that wastegates springs are usually set pretty low, Are you sure you are capable of 400 running off just the wastegate spring?

have you ever considdered franchising the RX7Store?

some kits allow you to keep the airpump for emission purposes.

It's perfectly fine. Spool will be *slightly* slower, and you won't be getting quite as much power up top.. But If I recall correctly.. ErnieT ran 10's (TENS) on a stock port motor with a KKK. I could be mistaken.

My friend runs a single on a TIRED stock motor (~55K) and made 390 @ 13.

Most of the power is in the tuning, but porting will help maximize spooling capabilities and overall power.

You could always (pretty easily) use a small electric corvette airpump just for emissions.. I believe Wargasm uses one.

Both RX6 kits allow retention of the air pump, if i am wrong its just the RX6A.

http://www.apexi-usa.com/about_contact.asp

the obvious two downsides with these turbos is that they are expensive, and if the turbo goes for whatever reason its not rebuildable in the US.

there a few threads about emissions and air pumps i found

The Apex and HKS single kits will let you keep the airpump.

nonseq twins is laggy as **** and it still runs fine. just downshift.

There is a GT35/40 in the works that lets you retain the airpump, and the GT35/40 according to estimates is good for 600 hp... @ which point I thought, 2/3 of the max power is a nice safety margin for a turbo... (400hp)

My $0.02

^^^ i think that solves all your problems right there, its affordable, rebuildable, retains airpump, spools fast, and makes plenty of power. What more could someone want?

Are those estimates at the engine or wheels, and are they for a piston engine or rotary. If its 600 on the flywheel of a piston engine then thats only around 500 flywheel for a rotary.

I'm really confused as to why so many people see 400 as the magic number... 360-385 (achievable on stockers) will run with Porsche GT2's down. But yes, a single is much easier to work on, fix, and maintain... I say go take a ride in a few single RX7s.. Find one that you like and go from there.
Well i see 400rwhp as the magic number, because it will beat a stock viper. I am a supra guy, but it has always been my goal to beat a viper. I think that might be where that number comes from. Also it is just a medium number. With supras, 400 is really low. Most people who are bosting are going around 7 or800 ponies. I think that 400 is a good daily driver number. Just enough to smoke most of the competition as you drive to and from work. One weekends you can increase the boost to smoke some more at the track.

Yes, but define "beating" a stock Viper. There's more to just punching it from a roll on the highway.. (Ignore that if you refer to other than straight line) 400hp is broken parts land for RX7's. Hard clutch dumps and drag tires are a great way to find the closest trailer. Autocrossing and track driving is a little different.. 400 hp sounds like a pretty good number to be a competitor, but I'd imagine that those guys show up modded too..

400rw isnt bad as long as your not dumping the clutch at high rpms...or wheel hopping.

If you run from a roll its fine. Especially if you get a diff brace
