What is the best Mod?

The other post brought up this idea. What do you think is the single best mod for the 3rd gen.

My vote is for the aluminum flywheel.

Car spools much faster than before. Does not increase heat in the motor or turbos. Does not reduce the longevity of the motor. Fuel and electronics can stay stock.

What other mod can make as big a difference, be felt throughout the entire RPM range, and not create any heat, fuel, boost or ignition problems? Everybody can enjoy it and not worry about bad tuning or anything.

So my thrust is the Aluminum Flywheel has got to be the single best mod we can do to the car.

Allan

Lets hear what you guys think the single best mod is. Remember only 1.

My vote goes to the PFC or other stand alones. they allow your car to be properly tuned to the other mods you on it. It also allows you to monitor various sensors.

"To mod or not to mod. That is the question. Whether to suffer another agonizing loss? And pout for evermore? Not me say I." I vote for a replacement engine: Cosmo 20b.

No question that the best mod is a downpipe! THAT is essential.

I am debating taking out my P/S. I track the car so I really should.

The flywheel mod is a pretty decent bang for the buck mod in that respects. My vote would go to some of the top reliability mods, namely the cooling ones. I think addressing one of the apparent weaknesses of a turbo rotary (that being heat) would be one of things I personally would start modding. So my vote would be for a V-Mount radiator and intercooler setup.

I would say really good tires.. it effects acceleration, stopping, and handling. or is that not considered a mod?

Mods for 94 are (in order):

Open Apexi intakes: Ok...feel little pickup
HKS DP: little more pickup
Greddy SMIC: ok...
RB DT & PFC: + 2 psi of boost
Tunning session: This is when the car came alive...now I having traction issue even with 275 tires/10" wheels in second gear. I never could believed what a 1.3L rotary TT with good tune can do...

There is no single good mod out there...everything works together...especially the engine tunning session by Steve Kan of Gotham Racing.

The single, most valuable mod is................................

A high performance driving school.

I have seen cheap low power cars post faster lap times than guys driving expensive cars. They are convinced it's the cars fault & mod the **** out of it.

How many times have you heard guys quote magazine times as their own?

"Oh yah, my cars does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds". BS, not with YOU behind the wheel.

You get idiots on this forum asking all the time if their car will beat a WRX, EVO or Ford F150. They proceed to list all the mods, but never anything about their driving ability.

Everyone is quick to reply "**** yah, you'll beat em hands down!!"

If he's drag racing does he even know what rpm to launch at, can the dipshit even shift?

If you have to ask, you don't know what your doing.

All your doing is just trying to win a school yard or bar room argument. It's called bench racing & everybody says their the best & could beat Schumacher.

so many reliability mods are vital to this car it's hard to pick just one

unlike just about any other vehicle, this car is much more reliable properly modified, no question

rubber IC piping? plastic radiator end tanks? plastic AST? fuel pulsation dampener that leaks? completely unflexible ECU? choked off, heat soaking exhaust? teeny weeny IC?

all SERIOUS flaws....just a question fo when they will let go, or kill your motor

and contrary to mr. water injection Rich, I'll take rich tuning any day

I say...besides reliability mods...

My favorite mod would be my OS Giken Twin-Plate Clutch w/ pressure-plate, and lightened-flywheel.

Quick-revving and engages every gear great.

That won't save you from a severe overboost or a bad tank of gas, Mr. Smarty Pants. Perhaps I should have said, water injection on top of good tuning. Problem is, I have received more bad tuning than good the last 7 years......

if you have $12-15k to blow, I say go for it

driving a chevy powered RX-7 would be a little anti-climactic for me, personally

because I enjoy in beating up on Mustangs and F Bodies

"wow, that 7 kicks ***, I can't believe how you pulled on me! what are you running?"

"350 Chevy"

"oh.....cool"

Agreed! An FD is useless without a Downpipe. All the other mods don't amount to a hill of beans without this!
