Weird clutch issue

When Im driving the car sometimes it feels like the Slave cylinder is only is only pressing the clutch fork half way. It only does it when the car is running and is in gear.

I have tested the Brake master cylinder and it is fine, with the car off I pressed the clutch 30 or more with no issue and did the same with the engine running with no issue.

Then I took the car out for a drive around the block as soon as I go from 1st to 2nd it shifted fine but when I start to let off on the clutch pedel, it feels like there is no back force on the clutch pedel. Then coming to a stop I press the clutch to stop with the trasminsion in second gear but the cluch was still partly engaged and I had to pump the clutch to completly desingage the clutch.

Also Im running a ACT Extreme pressure plate. So Im guessing I need to replace the slave /master cylinders but I dont know, due to the extra force needed to desengage the clutch.

clutch

Look through your inspection plate on the bottom of the gear Box. Get someone to push your pedal , And look to see if the clutch fork is broken, Release bearing is broken, Travel on the clutch fork. Pull back the carpet and look for a rust colour leak around the master That will tell you if the master is on the way out. Hope these checks help you out. Rix

why did you test the brake master cylinder???

sounds like low fluid, air in lines, or bad MC

Well the car has been completely redone, I painted the engine bay pulled the carpet and replaced it, Put in a used Brake booster, reused the Clutch MC and SC and installed a SS clutch line, and instaled the ACT Extreme Presure plate.

No where did I see any leaking on the firewall, all levels are good. I have driven the car now with the new rebuild for the last 3 weeks and it seems the clutch acts upevery other time, mainly when Im slowing down and down shifting with my foot on the brake and coming to a stop. I do notice it on the upshift but it shift fine, the clutch just feels soft when I let off the pedal.

+1.... You need to do exactly what RIX advised above. The inspection plate is on the bottom of the bell housing, slightly towards the passenger side.

There is an internal check valve in the master cylinder that closes the piston area off from the reservoir as the piston begins its travel. If that is faulty, then the pedal will travel too much before anything happens, resulting in your symptoms, and no external leakage. So, even if there is no evidence of a leak, the master could still be bad.

Thanks Dave, that sounds like that could be it.

From the site window you can see the fork and the throw out bearing, every thing looks good.
