weird buzzer!!

Ok...I'm pulling into my driveway, and I was backing up slowly, and I guess I went over some garden hoses, and eh...I stalled lol. So what...

Point is...once that happened, I got outta the car to move somethin outta the way, and I heard this buzzing...except I had never heard this buzzer before. It wasn't coming from inside the car...it wasn't a coolant or oil buzzer, since the sound was coming from under the hood.

So I popped the hood, and started looking. It was late, nighttime, and I was tired, so I just vaguely found the area where it was coming from. The buzzing sound was up against the firewall, right in the vicinity of the map sensor. Probably a little to it's left, when you're looking from the front of the car at the firewall.

The buzzer stayed on until I started the car, at which point I couldn't tell if it was gone or not since my exhaust is too loud lol. I pulled the car in, turned it off, heard nothing. Turned the key to accessories (much like it is after you stall), and heard nothing. So I called it a night, and went inside.

Anyone got any guesses??

yep yep, i had tha same thing happena few times. It was the ABS module over there by the map sensor. However my ABS ligth was also lit so im not sure why urs didnt light up. But even after i turned off the car the buzzing was still there and it finally took disconnecting the battery to reset it back to normal.

TpCpLaYa, I'm not doubting you...but isn't the ABS unit all the way in the far left corner of the engine bay? I'm talking about literally immediately or slightly to the left of the map sensor...??

Also...tell me if this is what you're referring to. Once a while back, my battery died, and I gave the car a jump. Ever since that point, the ABS unit malfunctioned. The light came on, and the ABS pump/module, whatever it is, came on, and stayed on. But that was a humm....and the humm came from the area of the ABS unit (far left corner). It stayed on and would drain my battery... Eventually, after I got another jump, it went away.

I later read in the factory manual that the ABS unit may temporarily malfunction when you give the car a jump...

But this is not what I'm experiencing now. I'm talking about an actual buzzer...

I believe it is your idle solenoid running, or the AWS solenoid. Definetly not the ABS if it is near the MAP sensor.

Reach down there in the daytime and grab onto it. It should be vibrating/buzzing( Of course repeat the exact sypmtoms,.. so stall like a newbie again and listen for the noise. )

LOL no no. A buzzING noise of a bug is very different from a buzzER. Both may begin w/ "buzz" lol...but they're quite different and distinguishable, I assure you. Besides...that's a real smart bug to start buzzing once the engine stalls and stop buzzing the second I started the engine again...

BigIslandSevens, I tried, didn't hear it again. So as far as I'm concerned, it's one of those things that I'm just going to shelve in the back of my mind, and let it be for now. FDs can be very moody at times lol. Lets just hope it doesn't come back later on.

Yeah, sounds like the idle speed control solenoid cycling. When the key is in the on position and the engine is off, you can hear all kinds of goofy sounds of stuff clicking and cycling.

Nothing to be concerned with.

Dale,

Any idea why it just happens on it's own, then stops all of a sudden?

dunno..probably an unknown faulty batch of relay modules from denso (i think being as they are the main component manufacturer for jap cars)

or maybe it is just tired..after all just imagine how many times that relay is clicking on+off over say 10+years!

See if it happens again. If not don't worry about it... sometimes crazy little things just happen. No worries.
