It'd be nice if we could all weigh our cars with a full tank to eliminate that variable. I realize it isn't possible all the time but every thread about vehicle weight has people struggling to remember the weight of gas (6lb/gal as others have stated) and trying to figure out what the difference is between two cars with different amounts of gas (read from extremely accurate gauges of course).


21 gal tank = 126lbs of gas.
16 gal tank = 96lbs of gas.

Worst case difference of 30lbs with full tanks.

Every time I have weighed my car on the local co-op scales it has been between 2880 and 2900 lbs. with me out of the car.

It's not about who's driving the car but the car itself.

You still have to have someone behind the wheel, so doesn't it make more sense to get a weight with the driver in the car? How can the absence of a driver be counted as weight reduction?

I think the spare and all the related tire changing equipment weighed in at 28 lbs. That's jack and all that stuff in the little comparment along with the spare.

Weighed mine the other day only weighs 2100 lbs. Crazy huh?

My spare was 20.8 lbs. by my scale, so that sounds about right without looking it up in Gene's "master list".

You guys forgot to take the 7/1 rotating mass equation into consideration. Well, those who have lighter wheels. You know, every lb that's taken off your wheels equates to 7 lbs taken on the mass of the vehicle.

i say put your car on a real car scale and don't use those truck scales. i remember a post a while ago where someone claimed 2300lbs after weight reductions his car and then reweighing it on a true scale and it turnning out to be closer to 2800lbs

That was my car and it used to weigh 2350. It should be quite lighter with the new rebuild.
