I have a 1994 rx-7. I'm getting alot of water under the passenger seat. (I'm talking a small pond here). Any idea on what this could be? I looked underneath but I don't see any holes, etc. There is no leaking either.

You should really make sure your window is closed before washing your FD.
If that doesn't work change the rubber molding from the doors. It might be loose or a piece broken off.

Whoa! That's bad news. Your carpet is going to mildew, then it's going to be tough to get rid of the smell.

Soak up as much water as you can with rolls of paper towels.
Put a wad of paper towels on the area and leave it there a couple of minutes till it soaks up as much water as it can, then repeat the process. This will take you some time. Then let the car air out. You've got to dry that area to avoid mildew or possibly even rust.

Needless to say, don't wash the car or drive it in the rain until you track down the entry point for the leak.

Did you drive through a deep water puddle recently?

It's unlikely, but I suppose possible, that your A/C vent is leaking
into the interior, but I would think the carpet would be wet farther
forward
than under your seat. Unless maybe you have a hole in the floor someplace and the water being drained out the A/C vent is somehow getting into that hole.

Weather stripping is another good possibility, as someone else said. There's a water drain through the door, but I don't see how that could leak into the passenger compartment.

If the sunroof was leaking, you'd see water on top of the seat, so that leaves you looking for some kind of water entry point under the car.

O.k. since no one is going to say it, I will.
There is a small drainage hose for AC condensation and it should be inserted through the firewall on the passenger side.
There are two possibilities:
1. the hole is plugged up. Use a wire hanger to clear the path.
2. The more likely scenario, the hose was accidentally kicked away from the drainage hole. Re-insert the hose and voila!!

Either case you will need to suck out the water and leave the window open on a sunny day for a couple of hours to dryout everything.

Sounds like a good plan Trex, but what I can't figure out, if it's the A/C drain, why isn't his carpet also wet in the footwell, why is it wet just under the seat? Maybe he hasn't checked under his floormats. But I agree, the A/C seems like it's the most likely source.

Dry that with sponge, paper towl and then a hair dryer before you start to get mildew and rust. If it smells sweet, it's probably a busted heater core. If it's water, it's could be the vent hose as someone pointed out or a bad door seal. The floor under the seat does curve down so if there was a leak somewhere, the water will flow under to the seat.

Looks like you'll need to get a flood alarm soon... Like the ones they sell at Home Depot to put near water heaters and stuff. Seriously, I hope you take care of it soon!

i have the same problem but mine is on the driver side. I noticed when i looked under the car that there were 2 of what looked like little rubber stoppers behind the front 2 wheels and in front of the back two. All stoppers were present except the driver side front two. If thats what's causing the leak does any have part numbers? also if those arent to keep water out, what else could it be.

does your front windshield fog up ? i had that same problem about water under passenger seat but then again it wasnt in the fd . not sure where its located but might want to try ck it out

Hold up, I haven't drove my FD on the road yet and have the same problem - water under the passanger seat. The only two possibilities are rain or water hose when I was wet sanding and washing. I will go over my door seal really good in the morning. Oh yeah, gutter gaurds are removed at the moment from the paint job.

yeah my front windshield usually fogs up which is from the wet carpet, does anyone know what stopper thigns im talking about? i really need a digi cam.

Check your water temp if it is running hot it is your heater core. my problem was i was running hot and noticed it was the hose that went to the heater core. i tried to pull the hose off and broke the heater core. it wasn't in a fd though but it is probably the same thing possibly.

Do what Rx7lover said but it may not be jsut the hose the heatercore it's self may be leaking. Not sure a bout a seven but in most newer cars they are not much fun to change. Good luck

the water in my car is under the driver seat, everyone else's seems to be passenger side. would the heater core messing up still apply? the temp gauge went hot the other day then dropped to normal all in like a 10 second period, where is the heater core located? any help would be appreciated.

I don't think the heater core would or AC drainage hoses would cause wetness under the seat but not in front of it. Sometimes after a heavy rain I get a bit damp behind the passenger seat. I remember a LONG time ago on the email list someone posted that there were some type of rubber seals...somewhere...that when they aged shrunk just enough to allow rain water from...I think the hatch area...to drain down to the area behind the seats. However, I've lost that email, and I never followed up on it myself. OK, so that wasn't much help, but perhaps a hint to look further...

THE MOONROOF LEAKS.

at least that is what mine is from. i get a wet carpet on the driver's everytime it rains for more than 30 mintues or so. i guess it wasn't much of a mystery to me because if you've every had a car with t-tops you'd be used to it. heh

It could be the rear hatch window seals. Prior to having my car repainted, the seals were leaking. They were replaced when they took out my windows and it has not happened since. If you take off the plastic panels near the rear hatch and there is water in there, it is probably that source of water.

Is your storage compartments wet also?

1)Take out the passenger seat and pull the carpet back.
2) Climb in the car with a flashlight, face toward the firewall of the car.
3) Get one of you buddies to hose down the car with a garden hose. Spay until you find the leak.
4) Fix the leak.
5) Remove all the water with a wetvac and then compress with towels.

It sounds like the A/C vent hose to me. You can find it under the glovebox.....like someone else said it's a little hose that plugs into the firewall.

The carpet in the footwell did get damp, but most of the time I didn't notice it since there was a floormat on top.

Anyway, I plugged that hose back in and it's been good ever since. Takes awhile for the moisture to totally evaporate though....
