If I remember correctly, it flowed somewhere around 98 GPH@ 11 or 12,000 rpm
stcok was like 43ish GPH@ like 5 or 6,000 rpms. the flow dropped off after that, too much cavitation.

We could easily make one for the rx8, the pump is exactly the same except backwards. so we could just flip the certain points on the design and machine us up a rx8 water pump.
we have been curently working on a miata pump though.

Just thinking:

Isn't too much coolent velocity a potentially bad thing (creating air bubbles) that can become trapped and cause an uneven thermal exchange.

Just a litte weery of new products that have little known research and testing.


Very intereting piece.

Nice looking peice, I would have to see some rock hard evidence that this will work better before I would consider getting it though. I couldn't risk overheating my engine testing out an unproven water pump desing.

what you describe as (air bubbles) is what cavitation is. poor desinged impellars are the contributing factor in cavitation. some will probbably say that even if you pump more coolent without cavitation, that the engine will run hotter, due to the coolent not spending as much time in the engine to soak up the heat, and not enough time spent in the radiator letting go of all the heat. this is not true! if the coolent stays in the motor too long, the coolent will then have a better chance of boiling, due to the nature of thermodynamics. the coolent can only soak up so much heat before it starts to boil. plus the faster the coolent travles, the more surface area, or contact the motor has with the coolent.
weery on new (non) tested products? this water pump desing has been in use for many years with great results. the impellar design is even pantented. sure this water pump is new to the automotive world, and this paticulare pump is still new and not fully tested yet. is it overkill? it might be....but think about this. if it pumps that much more, you can slow the impellar speed down and pumping loss will be freed up, more HP!

How much do you plan on selling these for? And wont there be more pressure? Dont think that would be good for the coolant seals. Looks like a good design and once the bugs are worked out i would be interested. You should also sell a underdrive pully with it if it flows too much

ofcoarse we would still do some more testing before realeasing the product. and we would not want to put anybodys engine at risk. i am just here trying to get a grasp of the peoples (your) responses. i am not here trying to push anything on anyone.

not sure yet on pricing, or even releasing them. like you said, just need to get the bugs worked out. and need to see if there would be a market big enough to justify production.
thats one main reason we maid one for the miata. there are alot more of those out there, and alot of them are raced. we hear that they have some issues cooling also!
i basicaly figured that only heavily modded or road raced rotarys would be interested in this product. maybe even the daily driver, wanting to put some inssurance on his engine. i guess we just need to wait and see how things pan out!
if any racers or willing members want to give this water pump a try, please let me know.

i would love to give you some actual data on the car. i dont want to give anyone any miss information so i will have to keep my lips sealed as of right now. but i can tell you that with the vary little testing i did on my fd, it should be alright to get your hopes up! :fingers crossed:

Wow, that looks nice! What company do you work for? What did you use to design the pump? It obviously works from the numbers you stated, I'm just curious what kind of engineering went into the design.

I'm a fluids/aero guy, so I'm just curious.

Since to much flow is a bad thing .....

If you reduce the rpm(Larger water pump pully) to get the same GPH then one would that pump lt last longer, and free up more power.

Thats nice! Is it a stock housing machined out?
I would be eager to test it, doesnt get much better than Phoenix in the summer time to test out cooling system products! And it would be nice to have something different to offer rebuild customers

Yes, there is room for improvement in the stock pump impeller, because it can cavitate and *lose* coolant flow velocity when you're at high RPM. However, an underdrive pulley solves it.

How do you know your impeller design will have a higher cavitation onset threshold than a stock impeller?

There won't be more pressure unless it manages to create a huge increase in velocity.
