VIDEO: FD being folded in half

Yep, in the states FD's are sought after, even in that condition. In the UK or Japan they're scrap when they get to that stage & the parts you could have gone to a lot of effort to remove would have been worth peanuts, therefore not worth the effort.
Seen quite a few cut up and weighed in over here also.
Its still a little sad to watch, looked like a relatively strait shell in the beginning of the vid.

He bought it like that and i never said i didnt know how to work on these cars. I know enough to maintain my own machine and help others. I would imagine me and him have equal know how these rotary powered cars.
The nice rx7s are usally from mainland or sent to mainland to be worked on then sent back here. The locals that bother with these cars have money to spend.

OP, you're a ******* idiot, regardless of how common they are in Japan. Clearly you ASKED to have the car mutilated like that (every single other car visible in the yard was just flattened and stacked) and then figured it would be a grand joke to post it up.
The only reason you're backpedaling is because you didn't expect the rest of the forum to react the way they did.
This thread just reaffirms my earlier feeling that you're a moron.

Oh my....... looks like i hit a soft spot lmao. If you listen to the audio i actually DIDNT ask for this. He did that completely on his own. I didnt know he was going to do that. I also have no idea where you figure i was backpedaling....... backpedaling to/on what?
The name calling is also unnecessary. Are you angry about something? From what i can see, ive done nothing wrong. The car was going to be crushed and i figured id record it. Does that bother you? You know this has been happening behind closed doors for a very long time? I would like to assume this is the first time its been publicized.

Heyo,
That's my JC pictured on the 1st page.
What cr-rex says about the island is true for the most part, what you guys have to realize is that Okinawa plays by it's own set of rules compared to mainland Japan. This island is occupied by a ton of military members, most only here for 2-3 years. They don't see the long term investment like you guys in America can. After their time here is done, and usually even before that, they just sell it off to the next person who repeats the cycle. These cars get passed around like candy, eventually until this happens.
Because the island is so overcrowded in areas, you have to pay for parking spots....at your own residence! I don't claim to know the owner of this FD, but that could've contributed to his ultimate decision to crush it. I don't like seeing it crushed anymore than the next person, but it honestly doesn't surprise me one bit. They PAY you to crush your car here.
There's VERY few rotary savvy individuals on island, the couple of tuning shops left on island straight up won't even touch a rotary. Meaning damn near everything is DIY, not that i mind though, I have trust issues. Truth is that most people buy FD's solely based on looks and don't do their homework. They soon learn of the maintenance costs, constant neglect from previous owners, and the biggest kicker, gas prices!!! All the bases here only sell regular unleaded gas, to get premium fuel you have to gas up off base. When you factor in the exchange rate, you're looking at around $5-$7 a gallon. A GALLON (see my avatar quote)!!!.
5000 yen (roughly $50) only gets me half a tank in my Cosmo, even less in my former FD (more on that in a minute). So when you factor in young folks, or maybe one just ignorant to rotaries, unfortunately this happens.
Is it cruel? Yes.
Is it the end of FD's as we know it? Not by a long shot! The rotary is alive and well........except for on Okinawa really lol.
About my FD I mentioned earlier, I had a beautiful 99 spec. Bought it 99% stock and automatic, after a couple of years it was converted to 5 speed, rode on Ohlin's, have a RZ Recaro, etc. etc, it looked like this:

After a while, I just couldn't swallow the gas costs anymore. See out here, us military types are only allowed to own 1 vehicle per driver. My wife had a Skyline GT-T at the time, while I daily'd my FD. I was spending Y5000 every 3rd day on gas alone.
Eventually I sold it for a S2000 and the new owner single turbo'd it......then decided to part it out and nearly send it to a junkyard since he wasn't getting his asking price when he tried to sell it. Luckily laujesse has it now, and I hope he revives it. That car doesn't deserve to be anywhere near a junkyard, and truth be told I feel terrible for selling it, almost like it was my fault it's in the sorry state it's in now.
Moral of the story, Okinawa is a different animal, very few people see the true value in their vehicles, whether its a Kei car or a FD. But be assured, there are still a handful of us still with the rotard bug.
Now rejoice, and drool over the Japanese FD used market:

It's a car, it has no feelings, if you get your feelings hurt about it getting mutilated, go to japan, buy all the junk fds, import them here or pay someone to store them. Yeah there were some usable parts, obviously it wasn't cost effective.

That was a huge waste and whoever did that is a ****.
That car looked to have good useable doors, rear bumper, Tein suspension, hood, door seals, plastics, etc...
Whoever the absolute idiot was that decided to destroy about $4000.00 or more of useable, salvageable parts that could have been shipped to an owner who needed them... Frankly seeing blantant wastage like that makes me very angry.
These cars are rare now and they are difficult to find small parts for, now that they've been out of production for so long and Mazda is discontinuing part numbers every day for them at an alarming rate.
I wrecked a red 1995 RHD FD here in Australia. Before I crushed it, I made damned sure every single removeable part, nut, bolt, piece of plastic and anything that was not welded to the unibody was removed and saved. The only part that was crushed was the utterly bare accident-damaged unibody frame itself, and not one part more.
**I have been to Japan and I regularly (up til early 2012) bring back whole RHD FD's to wreck and store, to Australia. It IS financially viable, and not as "hopeless" as the people in Japan would have you believe. I have 13 and a half FDs sitting in a warehouse that say it is not a lost cause/easier to just destroy.
Really makes me upset to see people who have no regard for the inherent value of anything, and only destroy things for the "amusement/can't be bothered" factor. I would have gotten more personal enjoyment out of simply giving those parts away to an owner who needed them, before I just wantonly destroyed them because I couldn't figure out what to do with them myself.
Pretty shameful and if I were the owner of that car I would not be particularly proud of myself as a human being.
That's all I have to say.

FD's have been steadily going up in value in Japan as well. It is VERY expensive to have storage space anywhere in this country, we also spend over a $1000 a year just keeping registration on our vehicles, the junk laws are very encouraging to scrap the whole car. Then you throw in American military coming in buying them up, realizing they have no support here and scraping them adding to it.
As a part of this trend FC's currently out value FD's in equal condition here, they are nearly extinct. In another 5-8 years there will be hardly anything left of the JDM FD's due to export and junking IMO. Enjoy it while it lasts.
In the OP's defense, we live on a tropical island. Sea salt and coral road dissolve cars here unlike anything I have ever seen, when he says it was unsaleable after sitting out for 3 years here he meant it.
This car sat for only one year...
