Very Happy New Owner!
I took the plunge and bought my first FD yesterday. MY GOD IT'S FANTASTIC.
I got an Alpine head unit dropped in today. The WAVE system may be taken out of the back, but it still has 3 good speakers up front. The car's proper quiet, too, so you can actually hear it.
Mods:
Engine/exhaust/cooling:
2k miles on a stock Mazda factory shortblock
APEX'i intakes
Peter Farrell Supercars intercooler/duct
Knightsports Sequential twin turbos (sounds like a Cummins diesel)
Racing Beat 3" downpipe
RX7Store.net high flow cat midpipe
Racing Beat 3" dual tip exhaust
M2 Stage 3 ECU (changing out for Haltech E6X)
Stock injectors (upgrading to 850cc primaries)
Mazda Cosmo fuel pump
Koyo Racing Radiator
Suspension/Brakes/wheels:
Tokiko Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks
Racing Beat Lowering Springs (OMGz DuMPeD LOLZ!)
Racing Beat swaybars
M's front strut bar
cross drilled rotors (F), unknown brand
unknown brake pads
Blitz Technospeed Z2 wheels - 18x9 front, 18x10 rear
Toyo Proxes FZ4 tires - 225/40/18 front 275/35/18 rear
Interior/Exterior styling modifications:
Stock '99 spec front lip
clear corner/side marker lights
Autometer boost gauge on A-pillar
Alpine CD/MP3/iPod head unit
Red leather interior - touring package w/ Bose stereo/sunroof
My plans for the car are not radical at all. It's almost perfect, I just have a little of my own personal preference to add to the customization.
I plan to install a standalone ECU, which I hope will be tuned by Steve Kan at SevenStock. At 11-13psi, I hope the car will make anywhere from 320-350rwhp with these upgraded twins. I intend to repair the bolster wear on the driver's side seat, and also repair any interior rattles or squeaks. I plan to add new rubber bushings, along with Tein coilovers(also will corner-weight the car). I want to strengthen the rear subframe to eliminate wheel hop, so I'm going to install a rear differential support bar, and also install RedLine synthetic differential fluid. I also want to either add a big brake kit in the front, or replace all pads/rotors and rebuild the calipers. I'm also going to roll the front fenders so that I can run 235 or 245 series tires up front. On that note, when the tires wear out, I want to install higher performance (non M+S) tires, like Toyo T1-Rs or Advan Neovas. If I notice the Knighsports twin turbos start to fail or exhibit shaft play, I'm going to add BNR Stage 3 non-sequential turbos and retune the engine to (hopefully) 380rwhp. Also, if the clutch wears out, I'll replace it with a high friction full-face unit with a slightly upgraded pressure plate, as well as a 13-lb. flywheel. That's about it.
I can't describe what it's like to drive, having driven FCs and FBs all my life. The smaller turbo spools at around 1300rpm, and from there power just continues to build in a linear fashion. It doesn't have the silly grunt of a large displacement engine, but before I can even think about it I'm going 100mph (and it's not making THAT much power!). Unlike other RX-7s, I can stay in 5th on the freeway and pass with ease. The suspension leaves a bit to be desired (springs too soft), but I enjoy the supple ride, and quiet interior. All in all, it does in fact feel like a completely different car from my FC3S. I absolutely love it.
Vinh, if you're reading this, THANK YOU.

those are the pics for now. No pics of the engine bay until tomorrow; it's too hot to clean the engine bay right now!

I noticed that too, but the title's clear. I'm going to try to get under there and check every nook and cranny, and then try to make everything perfect.

It's getting a full wax, interior detailing and engine bay polishing tonight and tomorrow. Then I'll snap some shots and we'll see what looks primered. :P

The engine bay cleaned up pretty well today. It had lots of dust from sitting all that time. I'll take pics of the interior when I get some treatment for the leather and a new shift ****, but the interior is pretty cherry as well.
