V-mount oil cooler idea.....

What's up fella's? I was searching the web and I ran into the a v-mount oil cooler setup for evo 10s. Which made me curious if it would possible to do one for the rx7.
I was thinking of 2 25row v mounted oil coolers on the driver since I have a 94 touring fd. Yes, i know what your going to say "why not just install a 25 row on each side." But if I installed 2 v-mounted 25 row oil coolers on each side, it'd be like running a 50 row oil cooler on both sides (right?).
Does this sound like a good idea? The evo's report no pressure drops (yes, i know pistons and rotary's aren't the same) and great cooling from this setup.
Good idea or crazy idea?

I don't see it being a bad idea, but it could be a little overkill depending on the use of the car, no?
From what I've heard even the stock dual oil cooler setups do a good job. Quite surprised about no pressure drop.

it is a bit of an over kill, but if i only ran one setup the driver side it'd just like a dual oil coolers (like the r1) but just on the driver side. i guess its just something different haha
i plan on doing some auto x and some track days with it. thought the better cooling would help the engine last a bit longer haha
but overall it makes a bit of sense right??

Do you really need that much of oil cooling? They need to be ducted properly to work too.

I'm only planning on doing it to one side. That way I won't use the traditional style of dual oil coolers (1 on each side of the bumper). With this setup both oil coolers would be located on the driver side v mounted while still being "dual oil coolers" just v mounted. Maybe I'm not explaining it right haha
Ill try to get some more pics of the idea

We understand what you're saying... I think.
I don't see why it wouldn't work. Only problems that I think you could run into would be fitting the bumper and I think ducting would still be required.

Lol! Okay.
Yeah, I would definitely have ducting. Otherwise it'd be pointless of even doing it haha.
I really do appreciate all the positive feedback I'm getting from you guys!!

it be a tight fit i would think to get the ducting and mounts all fitted to begin with since we are literally talking the area directly in front of the tires. I would say less headache to go the tried and true method of using both sides of the bumper but if your up for the challenge then go for it.

There is a V-mount intercooler and FC oil cooler on our 24 Hours of LeMons FD:

The oil cooler actually tucks in really nice.

Did you pick up that poor FD from hell? It looks like it's made a trip or two there.

Wow! it looks like our fd has been through a few fights there!
So you use something similar to what planning on doing? How good is the cooling??

True and I agree with you, but sometimes it's fun traveling the road less traveled and experiment haha
It may even cost a bit less as well. You'll only have to run oil lines versus 3 (I know, 1 more isn't a big deal). It will also be unique in a way.

The FD was burned pretty badly so we resurrected it into a LeMons car. Giving it a second chance at life.

Not really similar to what I think is being discussed here. Its actually simpler. The FC oil cooler takes advantage of the "V" formed by the radiator and intercooler and tucks right in the nook. You can see the oil cooler just to the rear of the intercooler. Two oil lines only and a larger oil cooler too!

Cooling is rock solid. We beat on it on a road course and no overheating problems.

Just trying to suggest a simpler method of mounting an oil cooler and take advantage of the V.

One 34-row oil cooler should satisfy your needs. Are you wanting to use the other side for a cold air intake?

one thing that instantly sets me on the backfence with this is balance and weight distribution , rememeber we're LHD cars , so between the driver , and all the extra junk already on the driver side you want to add a nice heavy oil cooler . kinda seems counter productive.

Vs what? leaving the right side open for a Cold air intake ? thats the only possible reason I could understand . rather then waste the time and effort to make a Vmount oilcooler .

Instead devise a nice duct system . for the intakes . which will be easier safer , and not add more weight to the heavy side of the car.

one FC oil cooler is a better solution imo. that is if you could fit it.. I was running dual oil coolers in series (stock oil cooloer with the fc oil cooler) and my oil temps were too cold...
