UIM and LIM metal round plugs...
Hey guys I just left my throttle body, upper and lower intake manifold soak overnight with simple green and then used heavy duty degreaser and let it soaked for a few hours... I noticed that some type of light grey oily residue got stuck around all the nuts/bolts/screws/ butterflies, etc. I then noticed that the plugs around the manifolds had something that looked like the residue as well as some kind of metal/plastic surround around the frezze plugs? What are these plugs for and can I put something like pvc cement around them to prevent them from leaking air?

Those plugs are just part of the casting process. I'm not sure if they go into the intake passages or not. Just get a little RTV and seal around that plug for peace of mind and you'll be OK.
