Turbo Housing Snap Ring
I just got my car back from inspection and got on the gas to hear the bov and it wasnt sounding. So i stop on the side of the road and find that the rear turbos housing was loose. When i had the turbos out i made sure they were in good but i guess not good enough. What is the best way to get the snap ring in the grove? I couldnt get in in there when i had it out but thought it would be fine guess not. Got to see if i can put it back on with the turbo on the engine or Goodfellafds is going to have more work

I rigged up a pair of heavy duty snap ring pliers.... find some small diameter, grade 8 bolts (slightly smaller in diameter than the holes on the snap ring) cut them down to about 3/4 inch long and tack weld them to a big pair of vice grips. Works every time.

The best (affordable) thing is to buy the large 90 degree needle nose pliers from Harbor Freight. They are only like 3 bucks, but the nose will be too large to go in the holes. So grind the nose down with a dremmel, dye grinder, or even on the pavement if you don't have either of those.
Buying a set of EXTRA LARGE snapring pliers is actually the best option, but they won't be cheap and you will prob have to mail order them, as I couldn't find any locally.

Yep, the giant snap ring (actually called "retaining ring pliers" on the package) from Harbor Freight is the only way to go. Why the hell they used those lethal snap rings I'll never know.

Those look sweet. Yea i got under the the car to check the damage and took the housing off to find nothing. No bent fins or shavings so i guess i lucked out big time. Dont think i am going to be able to get it back on in the car i might try a set of 90 bend pilers but it is a tight fit still amazes me how it came off

That is strange that it came off. Did you have them apart or something? I would look really closely at the compressor housing to see if there are any rub marks. It's possible that you got lucky, but it's one of those things you want to be certain of. If the assembly got knocked out of balance, it would be better to nip the problem in the bud.
I just ruined a motor by sending compressor wheel pieces into it 1k miles ago. Slow death. Luckily I have an extra set of housings, so I'm only looking at $500 for the enigne parts.
