Trunk mount battery

Is anyone running one of these? I don't know if this is something done with the FD... just read heat is a prob for it in the engine bay.

Generally it's relocated to the storage bins.

That's a step-by-step walkthrough.

M2 makes a kit to relocate the battery to a storage compartment. I originally just planned on making my own so I bought a generic kit from Summit Racing. I think I am actually going to return it and get the M2.

I would personally just buy a hawker genesis battery with the metal case for ~$125 look online. Then buy some 2 or 0 gauge welding wire from a welding supply store (very inexpensive and effective). You can also add some of those really pretty gold quick connects for the batter terminals as well. Thats a cheaper way to do the same thing as the M2 kit. Do a search on the kit, a couple of people on the forum have been dissapointed with that specific kit. I personally bought an Optima red top battery.

good luck,
eric

RX-7 Pilot has a very nice rear mount battery setup! it makes the engine bay look very nice and tidy and I also think it allows more air thru the engine bay.

do the kits that re-locate the battery to the storage bins look good? Can the bins still close and conceal the battery or are there wires everywhere and the top of the battery sticking out? thanks -jeff

Jeff, check out the link I posted above. There are pics of it installed. The top does close and you would never know it's in there, unless you looked of course.

Would you still have to cut out the bottom of the bin for an Optima Red Top battery?

Thanks for the help fellas... you may see the battery anyway since I am considering of removing excess panels out of the car for weight reduction. I am still not sure about this considering the FD doesn't have many in there in the first place! Like I said before... no fuss here... all go. Rice is for the chickens... let them cluck, cluck all they want... in my dust!!!
