Wouldn't a dual exhaust provide much less back pressure? Two 3" pipes would flow better than one, and allow two mufflers. I've always thought that Corvettes and Porsches had a big advantage here, and it is one of the reasons they can make big HP and still be quiet. Problem is, there's no way to do it without modifying the gas tank.

interesting? does anyone have an opinion on the backpressure and two pipes better than one theory? I have not heard this discussed much.

Richard, that looks freakin SWEET. I really like that.

Re: the backpressure etc...I'm not a physics or engineering guy, but I'll tell you two factors you need to be aware of: 1) I think piping going virtually straight back is gonna have less turbulence than having airflow turn at an abrupt angle to come off the left side as well. 2) Freeflow isn't absolute; I'm pretty sure there's a point at which too much freeflow is actually counterproductive, as it will generate turbulence w/ piping larger than air the engine can flow. Feel free to correct me guys.

Re: aftermarket bumpers that may look good w/ dual exhaust, I've always held that the C-West rear is a perfect example.

Do a search in the 2nd gen section on single vs. dual setups. There will be more than enough information to keep you reading for hours.

"1) I think piping going virtually straight back is gonna have less turbulence than having airflow turn at an abrupt angle to come off the left side as well."

I think pressure, like water, seeks the path of least resistance. The straight pipe might flow better than the bent one, but, together, they'll flow more.

"2) Freeflow isn't absolute; I'm pretty sure there's a point at which too much freeflow is actually counterproductive,"

On a N/A maybe; don't believe it for a turbo.

It worked for my friend with a Supra. I met him a few years ago at a Supra meet, at that time, he had a custom twin T-66 set up with the 4" TI HKS exhaust but decided to go full all out custom. He downgraded to T-61's and fabricated two straight pipes going to the back with HKS carbon ti mufflers, 1 on each side. Here is the link to his Supra, many of you have probably already seen this car:
http://www.speedforceracing.com/prod...praexhaust.php

I believe he is going to finish a kit similar for an FD with twin t3/to4e's. The guy had a C-West kit with a hole cut out to fit the second exhaust.

Dual exhaust may look nice if done right...but I'm still all for a cutout on the rear quarter panel, right in front of the right rear wheel... kinda like the RE Amemiya JGTC GT car

I'm on my way to see him next week, I'll let you know how the FD turns out, I'm interested in it too. I wonder how much power that set up would make, especially with dual ball bearing t3/to4e's?

I think dual exhaust would look great on a FD but..........the setup would have to be of normal sized canisters and nice single polished tips. When you start throwing on two of these big cans with 4" tips its going to look like crap hanging off the back.

agreed with above. I hate single tip exhausts and I really hate the look of two fartcans drooping like 3" lower in the back than in the front, angled out to the sides...what give with that anyway? is it just a style thing, or is there a point?

I believe they are usually angled to the side cuz they would stick out way to much staight. And its probably a style thing too.

Yeah, its a style thing, my friend did it just to be unique. Mission accomplished for him. Nobody has a set up like him.... yet.

The problem with that is the restriction at the turbo outlet to the exhaust. It will only allow a certain amount of flow. Two pipes splitting immediately off the turbo might be no better than one. A single 4" exhaust would likely be a better choice as there would be no backpressure at the split.

What about if you had a custom twin turbo setup with bigger turbos, like I think I saw a twin gt34r kit, Then if you ran two pipes one for each turbo all the way back and then split into the dual tips like in the PS pic? would that work?

I have yet to see any sports car that looks better with a single side exhaust outlet than it does with a properly configured dual exhaust set-up. IMO. Is it worth the work and money for performance reasons? Likely not, but it would look better.

Here's a dual exhaust FD (from https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/omg-poor-7-a-493499/):
