Trouble with rear hawk brake pads - help?
I am installing right now and seems to have some issues and wonder if the pads I have are defective.
The main issue is that the raised pin on the Hawk pads is closer to the top of the pad than the stock pads, this caused the pin to sit up on the rubber boot of the piston instead of in the groove of the piston.
I have the pisotn all the way in, parralel to the caliper housing and still cant get the caliper back on the rotor with both new hawk pads on.
Are these bad pads? Or I had the wrong pads sent to me?
Attached is an image of what I am reffering to.

This is just a guess here, but flip the pad upside down and swap the pads on each side of the caliper. It looks like that will give you the 'bumps' lower on each side..

That does nothing, all the pads are the same shape and have the 'bump' in the same spot.

It Looks like you may have gotten the wrong (or defective) set of pads - the pin definatly needs to fit into the groove on the piston. - I just put a new set of Hawk HPS on mine & I think the attached shims were also a different shape - I will take a look when I get home tonight.
Call the Vendor you purchased them from (and/or HAWK) and verify the Part# and request a new set of pads.

Take a micrometer and measure the thickness of the Hawk pads. Your rear pads should be no thicker than .515" including the backing plate.
I had this problem a couple of years ago with Hawk HB 158's and they were more than 10 thousandths over spec, and wouldn't fit in between the caliper and rotor.
I use KFP Gold pads now. They run much cleaner than Hawk and easier on the rotors.

mine are also labeled HB158f.515...so seems like the pad model number is correct, maybe i got wack pads or maybe its fine that the raised pin is a bit higer than the stock one ?

I checked my OLD HAWK pads in the garage but they Did Not have the attached shims - the sims on the new pads look similar but hard to tell as they are installed on the car and partly covered by the caliper the Old pads are marked HB158 HPS
PS with the pads that have attached shims - DO NOT use the stock shims in addition to the attached shims.
