![Question](https://www.rx7club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Is it just me or does your car get rather warm under the arm rest area of your car from the inside? Is there supposed to be a heatshield or something of that nature that my car may be lacking that I need to put on or should I just get some of that heat wrap and put it around my downpipe/midpipe?

Yes, my transmission gets warm enough to heat up the center console too. But that's only when I load the tranny or by driving the highway in 4th gear. Shifting to a higher gear cools it down. Often times, my passengers have complained about heat since the downpipe and catalytic converter also runs right underneath them. An infrared thermometer tells me an unwrapped downpipe puts out about 300 deg. F, and the cat. is about 450 deg. F. Add all those together and you have a nice little portable oven. ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I noticed the temperature increase varies with different tranny oil used. If memory serves, redline oil runs a tad cooler than neo synthetics (reason maybe, GL4 vs. GL5). So changing to a different oil may help.
I don't recall seeing a heat shield in the tunnel between the tranny and the driver. As RTS3GEN pointed out, you can easily add one yourself. There are adhesive backed variants of the heat barrier clothes, so putting those one would be easy. Since the downpipe runs underneath the seat, adding some shielding to the underpan above the pipe doesn't hurt either.
Good luck.
