Does anyone know what the fd will do max?? I mean redline in 5th gear?? By the way I did 155mph, but that was with stock rims, now thanks to my after market rims, I get a serious shake after 80 and it gets really bad after 100. So I am going to get me rims balanced and I hope that helps, if not I'll sell them to some kid who owns a honda (because he'll never know about the problem because his car won't go faster than 100mph).

A stock-geared and stock-tired FD will do around 200-205 mph at 8000 in 5th if you actually had the horsepower needed to get up there.
My FD has a short 5th gear in it which limits it to 180 mph at 8000 RPM and I plan on getting that on video this summer

hey guys i just got my car a lil over a month ago, and i live in syracuse, NY so the we havent had weather that i am confident in really pushing my FD. I have done 132 in my car and had so much more pull left in 4th gear. Once the weather gets better i have plans to top my car out. ill post when i do this. I have a few mods on my car cb, dp, lite weight pulleys, Ic, intake, stuff like that. I was told there is a governer on the FD, is this true and if so what does it top at, and will a power FC get rid of it?

4th redlines between 140-145, I've seen that NUMEROUS time stock and modded. I rarely ever keep going though cause then you go to 5th its geared to high it pretty much falls on its face.....at least when your stock. Dont get me wrong it'll keep pulling in 5th but its jut mush slower as compared to 4th. I mean after all it is just a OD gear.
Oh yea, the most mine has been up to is 155ish racing a C5. I had a intake, dp, cb. It was still going but we decided to back off
I believe most of the mags reported 160 top end on a stock FD. I think its geared to be able to touch 200, all you need is the power, rubber, and prayers

damn u guys are nuts...come to ma and try that...our potholes on the highways are bigger than the pot holes on side streets in most cities....swallows cars whole..
ive done 160 indicated in a 01" gti on 17"s in the passenger seat tho...never really had the urge to pussh a car that high...maybe 140 the highest.. but my last car had warped rotors which wasnt the best at high speeds

I hit 150+ racing a Ferrari Testarossa before I let off. This was with no other cars around -- of course. Car still felt plenty stable and was still pulling. Downpipe and cat-back. I have hit 120 more times than I can count and have topped out 4th gear (about 140) several times.
None of these pulls occured in traffic.

Best top end was 162-163 (whatever the first little hash is after 160) Totally stock, still pulling I would say.
Best average is between Springfield and Decatu, IL. 140mph average (35 miles in about 15 minutes or so )
Did it once with a cop going 95 or so, to give you a read on how fun that road is....
Best longer trip would be when I picked my car up from the previous owner in Orlando. Err, back to St. Louis in a hair over 12 hours including stops.

Find the nominal height of your tire:
P275/40-17
Sidewall height = 275 * .4 = 110mm / 25.4 mm = 4.33"
17 + 2 (4.33) = 25.66"
Find the circumference of your tire:
2 * pi * (25.66 / 2) =
2 * 3.14159 * 12.8" = 80.62"
80.62" / 12 = 6.72 ft.
Find wheel speed for a given rpm and gear:
engine rpm / trans ratio / diff. ratio = axle/wheel speed
7,500 rpm / 0.71 (5th gear) / 4.10 = 2,576 rpm
Find vehicle speed:
2,576 rpm * 6.72 ft. = 17,313.6 ft./min.
17,313.6 * 60 = 1,038,818.3 ft./hr.
1,038.818.3 ft./hr. / 5,280 ft. (1 mile) = 196.7 mph
With wind resistance, tire slippage, and considering that tires are not perfectly round, the actual vehicle speed will be somewhat lower, and the margin of error will be higher as speed increases. So if you calculate your "maximum speed" in 3rd gear, for example, don't be surprised if you can't reach that speed on the road.

130 let up due to front tires having a little ware on the inside! It was fun and all started due to a old 1.5 stang he didn't have a chance anyways... plan to go mess with some beamers when new motor is installed and broken in still scared of some of the porche boys!

I'm just curious, though. Which part of "considering the tires are not perfectly round" didn't you understand? Even with tire growth, they will never be the perfect circle that the calculations use. Hence my first sentence, which reads "approximating speed"...
