Tons of White Smoke on Cold Start Smells like Raw Fuel, Smoke in engine bay
Guys i am getting alot of very light bluish White Smoke upon Cold start ups only. The Smell is Raw Fuel, no sweet smell at all. The other thing i notice on the Cold startup is that i see smoke rising in the area exactly where the Downpipe Connects to the Turbos, The smoke dissapears once the smoke out the exhaust dissapears, sound of an exhaust leak? I have had rear Main oil leak for some time now, maybe now its gotten so bad that its starting to come out of the exhaust on cold starts, but the Smoke in the Turbo area right where the downpipe connects to the turbos i cant understand. Do i have an exhaust leak? Gasket needs replacing? Turbos boost awesome, no Smoke when on open throttle at all.

I had the same problem before my coolant seals went. Accept with mine it would smoke really bad at stops and at lights not just on cold start up. I'm haveing my new engine put in now along with new gaskets so hopefully its fixed by the time everything is done... Curious to where the smoke from behind the turbo's would be coming from too...

I had tremendous amount of oil leak from the bottom of my turbo (liner).
therefore, i used to see all this white smoke 20-30sec after i start up my car coming right on the top of the air pump.
I would go with leaking problem on your car.

The smell isnt sweet in the Turbo Area under the hood. When i shut the car off i see faint smoke rising up from where the Downpipe connects to the Turbos. There is no sweet smell at all going from the tail pipe nor the Engine Bay. sounds like a gasket is leaking? maybe gasket inside where the Downpipe connects to the Turbos?

I dont know if this is any help but I know that on the stock downpipe it has a precat which could be causing your smoke. the the downpipe precat was used to meet emission laws and I have heard it can cause detonation.

Bro i got no precat, Straight 3.5 Inch Downpipe running to the Turbo Manifold. Yeah i got rid of that Precat long time ago, stupidest thing mazda made, burn the **** out of your turbos. This Smoke comes right where the Downpipe connects to the Turbos. I washed the engine the other day, i dont know if it has something to do with that, just access water getting burned off. The Turbos Spool fantastic, Car Pulls hard. Anybody think its an exhaust leak? help the brother out Maaaang! 111 people and only 4 replies come on now! hehehe

I'm having the exact same problem right now.
The FD had been sitting in the garage for about 6 months, and after I got it started, smoke came from the exhaust and turbo/manifold area. Usually it clears up when the car gets warm but not this time.
My 4x850 injector setup ran too rich, so I put the 550s back in. Now, the unburnt fuel smell has been replaced by something a bit more foul.
Motor runs strong, it's just smoking up the place. I think I might have a clogged cat or an oil leak somewhere. A clogged cat did the same thing and destroyed my EGR valve on a f-body I used to own.

did a search instead of making a new post and this thread sounds similar to my problem, cept I can't see any smoke coming from under the hood, only the exhaust.
It's deffinitely an oil leak (it's a nice blue-white color) and it only happens on very, and I mean VERY, cold starts, usually after the car has been sitting for close to 24 hours. It clears up after I drive it for a little while, and I'm thinking maybe the oil-feed line for the turbos is stuck open or my cat is starting to get clogged.
I know I've got leaky fuel injectors and I just ordered new ones so I'm getting that fixed soon.

Hmm, i occasionally get some smoke out of the tailpipe for a short period of time on a very cold start up as well. It is NOT a coolant or oil smell, smells like it's running very rich on startup. Is this normal on a all stock car? Injectors leaking when not running?
