Angry T'is the season for bad drivers.

I was driving down the road the wednesday before christmas and a guy in a jeep pulled out in front of me, I hit the brakes and swerved to the left to avoid an accident. unfrotunately for me the guy stoped as soon as he saw me which led to me running in to his RR bumper. bummer!

The estimated damage to my car is 7,100 dollars. The Insurance adjuster is saying that the car is most likely totaled!!!

I would like some other people's .02 Cents on this. is the car worth being saved or should i part it out.

Car has 87k miles all original except for fluidyne rad, efini y pipe & low mileage turbos.

Here are some pictures of the damage.
Thanks for looking.

I've had a lot more front end damage on a trackday crash and wasn't that much to repair (also an excuse to swap in 99 front).
... But things there in the states work differently so, I'll leave it to the "locals".
Over here, i'd have it "like new" for less than 1k.

I plan on going 99 spec with the front end if its not totaled, hopefully there are some nice looking fd parts up for grabs in the parts section.

His insurance is going to pay for it? That sure as hell doesnt look like $7000 damage to me.

PM turbodrx7, he has a nice cym hood available for free down in Maryland.

I'd try and get the car fixed on that moron's dime, but avoid the salvage title. 99 front bumper, new fender, shouldnt be too difficult. I'm assuming the frame is ok.

Most damaged part seems to be the pop-up mechanism.

Yes goodfella its on the other drivers dime. Ill have to pm that guy, a new hood is about 1000 dollars I meet with the adjuster here in a few hours, so wish me luck. its hard to tell if the frame is bent at this moment the damage is more severe than it looks. it looks like the frame around the headlight is mangled severly so well see.

Can you raise the hood? If so, snap a picture. Many (many, many) years ago, I had similar damage to my old 300zx. Repair was a little over 4k.

Yes I can raise the hood. when I talk with the adjuster i will take some picks for the engine bay. the 7k is the estimated ammount for the body repair shop to get the car back to preaccident condition. it probably won't cost that much to fix.

Best of luck,

From what ive seen its very hard to ever get pop up head lights to line up 100% after an accident.

What ever you do avoid having yet another FD out there with a salvage title.

either way good luck.

Hell get the above & I'll give you a bumper, lights, & rebar for $150 you cover shipping. Hopefully you can get it all sorted out, I'm sure another member has the headlight assembly you'll need thrown in a garage somewhere, hopefully theres no frame damage.

Good luck,
Idel

if the frame rail is pushed in you are in trouble.. VERY similar thing happened to my FD 3 years ago. The wheel well is where I hit and it tends to be reinforced. Luckily you didnt fire off your airbags. When that happens it cracks the windshield too.... mine was totaled btw.

Now I have a gorgeous low mileage FD

everything went well with the insurance adjuster. they ended up giving me 7,300 dollars for repairs and my car is not totaled. Big thanks to those club members that happen to have the right parts at the right time. now all i need is that free hood from turbodrx7

The body shop is tearing down the front end tomorrow. i will be there to take some pictures of the car with the body panels off to really see the extent of the damage.

So I drove up to fritz flynn's house yesterday. he has a veritable rx7 utopia there first of all.
I ended up walking away with a new 99 spec front end and a really great condition cym hood for a great price.
here are some pictures of the car tore down and some pics of the new parts
