I agree with Gordon (gmonsen) completely. I've owned a bunch of enthusiast cars in my life too (I even had a concours level E30 M3 as well... BMWCCA member for 17 years). To me, enthusiast's cars follow the simple laws of supply and demand. If you must have a specific automobile - you'll have to find one that fits your criteria and spend the money.

I always buy limited production vehicles and do fairly well when I part with them - but I never expect that they appreciate. If you take it your search to another level - such as a specially optioned car or limited color combination within that limited production run, you'll do even better. Look what happens when you add RPO LS6 to a '69 Chevelle.

I had to have a 1994 RX-7 Luxury 5-speed in SSM over Red. I bet that with such specific criteria, there could only be a handful available that are in top condition. When I found one - even though it had more miles and performance additions than I was looking for - I jumped on it. I will be bringing it home in the next month or so...

I paid exactly what Gordon suggested. I did not buy it for an investment, but it's nice to hope that someday it's value may remain constant or even move north.

How can i put it in simplier words, "you're not god". lol

You have the right path but you're basically throwing off what you "think", same with what eveyone else is doing. It makes sense but its an aimless assumption.

People never would have thought in a million years that we will have a black president, look at our president now.

People never would have thought DOW would take a plunge like it did, look what happened to that.

Just like you said earlier, we cant predict the value of these cars in the future.

That itself shows that you dont know, we dont know, i dont know. Its a 50/50 shot. You have confidence because you may have been right in the past. That happens to alot of people too. I have had psychic abilities in the past and sometimes i was wrong. Its a 50/50.

Hence why i said its all opinionated. We can only HOPE for the best for these cars.
Please don't take offense to this but I disagree with most of your thoughts because they have no basis where as Gordon's predictions have a foundation which is based upon knowledge and history.

I have no problem w/ the possibility of a black president we almost had a female president which is even harder to believe for some. White people are the minority

The stock market was heading to 7500 and below as soon as it went from 4k to 14k in 10 years and anyone who understands anything about stocks and the stock market could call that.

The FD has already appreciated over the last 10 years by a lot. Low mileage FDs in good shape that were 10 years younger sold for less than they do today IN THIS ECONOMY. I was buying highly modded cars 5 years ago for much less than I am today.

I paid 12k for my 1st FD back in 1999. That same FD would cost me more today (in this economy).

Common sense: Find another car that handles as well, looks as good, is as much fun to drive, is as unigue, is as easy to modify, has so many enthusiast supporting it and cost 12k for decent one. I'm sure all my thoughts will come across as just being a blind FD enthusiast myself but like you, Gordon and rest of the free thinking nation I value my own thoughts hehe. Soon a decent one will be 15k, 20k, 25k, UP and UP

I wish I had more garage space to get another car, sigh.

anyhow- when the supras were new does anyone remember how bad they sold? They could not get rid of them, they were EXPENSIVE! Then one year Toyota lowered the price by almost $10k on the car, supra guys went crazy because imagine how the value of your car just tanked by toyota doing that?

now look at them, I really dont even like them, kind of funny looking to me but you got to respect the ones out there.
A FD is a ton sexier then a supra.

Remember this, Gordon said 5 and I said 10.

But what are you saying? Will the supra still be worth twice as much as the FD in 5 years, in 10 years? Will it be worth 3 times as much?

The supra is valuable because it's a very well built decent looking car that's the easiest car to modify that's ever been produced and the tuner thing is fading away along with cheap gas

PS I also predict the Surpa will always be collectable but not in the same league as the FD in 25 years.

Have you seen what low mileage TT's go for nowadays? lol

The supra is worth twice as much as the FD NOW.

All im saying is that if the value of the rx7 goes up, so will the supra. So the FD could never pass the supra.

Because with the MUCH more models/years the supra has and still can hold value (i know, we're talking about the TT's), you can imagine what that would be like in the future.

Basically you guys are saying the supra will depreciate. Why? What would happen between now and then that will depreciate the supra and the FD appreciate?

So I KNOW the FD will appreciate, all im saying is so will the supra.

Im not saying the FD is not a classic, it wont appreciate etc etc. Because i would be wrong.

All im saying it WONT surpass a supra. Thats all.

And if im wrong, thats cool, more power to us. But i highly doubt that, not in 5-10 years.

OK now that's what I'm talking about a definitive prediction that the Supra will always be worth more. Hopefully one of us will remember this thread in 5 years and we can see what the prices are doing and then check in again in 10 hehe.

I really don't know why so many people still think that modifications add value to a car when all evidence points to the contrary. (That said, the $6-$9k estimate is silly - though if the economy continues on its current trajectory it may be plausible in a year.)
Whatever.
I guess I'm a rare breed then.
I just bought a G8 GT as my daily driver...
