Thinking about selling R1 talk me out of it

I love my car to death. I've only had it for like 6 months but I'm thinking of selling her. Apparently it flooded...real bad, and for no reason. I turned it off after an hour long ride, let it sit 2 days and nothing. Just cranks. It was running real strong. 15in vac at idle perfect boost pattern.

I tried everything you guys said. Wasn't getting anywhere. Finally I talked to a rotary tech down in Florida and he said dump a **** ton of atf down the plenum...so I did. Pulled f/p relay and boom it started, after 2 fu*kin months of playin around. It started. It died 10 sec later but I'm pretty sure it just fouled plugs. Hopefully some new plugs and were good but I'm fed up.

Lets see if you guys can talk me out of selling it.

IF the car really means as much as you say it does to you, then why would the thought of selling it pop up? It all depends on how bad you want it. The car will payoff in the end, what other car has the lines as the FD? Every car has its problems, just ours are high maintenance. Dont skip out on her first test for you

the FD is like a relationship with a girl. It all depends on how bad you want it to work out.

I like the car.

I don't like the idea that I take care of it by always warming it up, always cooling down, always changing oil at intervals, washing every other day, and it fu*cks me for absolutly NO reason.

theres always a reason for something. Maybe theres a deeper problem that you dont know about. Did you buy the car used?

If you are getting that upset at it for something that may be fixed as easily as changing plugs then maybe you do want to sell it. However, if I was in your situation, I would keep the car. It could be a lot worse. Hang in there man!

Yeah it was used.

It has rebuilt turbos, rebuilt trans, new alternator, new tires, apexi front end, and some other ****. It ran great and didn't give me any problems as a daily driver for 9,000 miles and then all of the sudden... it breaks down for no reason. WTF

I guess its a reliability issue

keep it, or sell.......

Tough decision for sure, some questions though.....

Is it your only means of transportation?
Is it paid for, if not do you have the $$ available to spend on it?
How important is the car to you? Do you identify with it?

For me it's easy, I wanted one since the day I first saw a brilliant black model in the summer of 92. I honestly thought it looked better than
anything on the market. Also, now mine is paid for, isn't driven every day, and the only thing it's needed in three and a half yrs is a clutch (even that could have waited a while longer).

There's enough bullshit to encounter in life, if something/someone doesn't make your life more enjoyable, more on. If it makes you feel good, all other things considered, hang on to it.

good luck

i say you sell it. i would rather it be in the hands of someone who likes to take care of it, change oil, wash it everyday is it needs it. And to get the car and not expect troubles is just crazy. i say either you fix it yourself or sell it.

Keep the car. You can always get it fixed corrextly down the road when you have the patience and time to fix it. You'll miss the car otherwise. And, stumble up in buying another FD and more $$$.

FACT!

FACT: 100% of all r1 owners who sell there car end up wanting it back or buying another... (i dunno if it's true but it can't be to far off =))

My mercedes was flooded in the greater houston flood of 2001 and i've been without a car for well since then.. i got an rx7 and it's been in the shop since.. december... Took a month and a half so to get an engine from ******. 3 weeks delay.. i was suppose to get it in 2. THen the non sequential turbos i bought from some dirt bag was blown, than all the endless little parts I had to buy for the REX. Then i just decided to go single and still not done, getting uncle to cut some extra block off plated for the engine, AND the fmic was a bitch to install because the last owner took shitty car of the car.. And frame was off from what appeared t be a slight hit on the passenger front. Having to get it electrically pulled by my other uncle from toyota.. It is a pain in the *** but it will all be worth it to eat almost every car on the street... for fun!!! Oh yeah and I almost cut my finger off too working on the car.. My fault though.. =) So if you think you are the only one going through a big headache with the car guess again.. And trying getting around houston and to and from work with no car... Good thing i just recently picked up a girl that has a spare car .. =) She was nice enough to let me drive it until the black beauty is up. Good luck with yours man...

You're insane if you want to sell your car just because of that small problem. Talk to any 3rd Gen owner with plenty of miles on his car or any 2nd Gen owner. You're damn lucky to just have an easy-to-fix flood situation. These cars aren't Hondas in that you could put 150K miles on it and just change the oil. All RX-7s are at least 7 years old...you have to be kidding me if you don't think they don't have any problems-even if the mileage is low!

I agree with some of the other posters here, if you want to sell it because your 9 year old car flooded out one time, maybe you should. Do you know how many people here DON'T have a perfect boost pattern like you have? Any 9 year old car, even a Honda, is going to have occasional problems.

Get the plugs changed, and take her for a driver. It will feel like Love ALL over again

There MUST be a reason why it flooded. It's very rare for a 3rd gen to flood. Usually, what causes flooding is when you crank it up, you move it for like a few feet and immediately shut it off simply because it is running SO rich when cold.

Just make sure your plugs are changed. Once wettened in a flood, plugs never perform the same again.

I finally got it running but as soon as it sees boost it starts bucking and shaking. Any gear any rpm. It idles fine and runs fine until it sees positive pressure.

I'm thinking limp mode. I'm also gonna try new plugs and checking the map sensor, boost sensor etc..

Any ideas?
