nope. when t-stat is closed, all water exiting block flows across the wax piston exposed on back of t-sat, then flows thru the back port that bypasses the rad and goes to pump inlet.

Jiggle pin is to avoid air pockets, period.

With both caps off, fill at neck slowly, so lower ast fills. cap ast as soon as level gets close to top of can. finish filler neck fill.

All filling done very slow.

Then search on "burp" and do it. Learn about using upper t-body heater hose as a vent.

Some will start (just warmed) and run 1 minute then shut down, top off fill neck, and repeat 3 times or so.

.............

As a general rule, if you don't know what you are doing, and won't read a manual (free on web) to find out, then don't do it. Could cost you an engine.

It turned out that my reservoir was over filled and fluid was blocking the breather hole. This didn't allow the AST to properly vent the air bubbles out through the reservoir. I had to siphon the coolant down to the normal level and now everything is fine again. So if you have excessive boiling noises, check the reservoir's coolant level.
The AST will work fine if reservoir is overfilled. That grometted vent on top is much less restrictive vs an internal orifice in the tank elbo where the hose is attached. Just makes a mess. Use dip stick to check cold level, and read where "F" is.

More likely in messing with it you stopped a minor vac leak in vent hose that allowed air to be drawn back in engine during long/overnite shutdown.

I stand corrected... Thanks!
