Is there an exhaust out there quieter than the Greddy SP?
Wanted to reach out to the 3rd gen guys and see everyones opinion who have owned multiple exhausts.
For starters, the RB Duals is not even close to the Greddy SP. The RB is noticably louder.
I wanted feed back from the guys with the new Greddy SP2 or guys with some of the Tanabe exhausts that claim DBs in the low 90s. Not sure what the DB rating on the SP is, so kinda have to go off reference.
I love the SP sound but hate the look so trying to find the best of both worlds.

I bought a HKS Silent HiPower after removing a Fujitsubo Legalis R. Both are JASMA certified and quieter than most exhausts. Legalis R did sound better and resale value was good. In terms of dB I have no stats but they should be available online somewhere.

Since you are mentioning Greddy, I guess you do not care if the systems have been discontinued by the manufacturer.
The Apexi PS Revo with the built in ATS is virtually silent at cruising speeds and supports enough flow for the 20B to be able to breath. I had the HKS Super Dragger for years, it was way too loud. Then the Tanabe Concept G, it was quieter but very restrictive.
That being said I have found that most systems when coupled with the Magnaflow presilenced midpipe become much more tolerable. http://www.banzai-racing.com/store/9...P_exhaust.html

In general, the quieter the exhaust, the less it flows. I had a Fujitsubo Legalis-R a while back, was VERY quiet but really killed off power.
The oval shaped Japanese exhausts are typically going to be the quietest. Also depends on what style you're looking for, if you do or don't like a certain look.
The Greddy SP was in 3 versions as far as I know - the VERY early one that's super plain (that's the one that was on Corey's car when I bought it), the regular SP with the flared out single tip, and the SP2 which had a rolled tip. I've had all 3 .
Another option is the Apexi ECV (exhaust control valve) - I have a writeup on it. Pull a lever and you suddenly have whisper-quiet exhaust, open it up and it roars. Good way to make anything quiet.
What style or look are you going for?
And, yes, I agree - the RB cat backs are fairly loud. I also don't like how they use the stock muffler bracket, that just looks dumb. Everything else on them is great fit and finish wise, but they're really not that quiet. They do perform though.

I have this Tanabe Medalion Touring catback: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000N5JRG0
The catback is only as good as the midpipe though, I have the magnaflow resonated midpipe from rx7store.
My car is extreme quiet unless I am under boost (open wastegate).

I thought RB duals was the quietest catback... A local policeman told me Racing Beat exhausts came stock with some Mazdaspeed cars so I'm sure the Greddy logo would afraid them.
I'd keep the RB duals even if Greddy SP is quieter...

My current FD came with an almost brand new RB Dual with pettit resonated midpipe. Ive never been a fan of the exhaust since I heard the Greddy SP. Also, the RB is rather restrictive, where as the SP has always made good power for me. The only down side to the SP is the huge tip on the back.
My current FD was running on the factory wastegate spring when I got it. I replaced the RB dual tip with an Apexi GT spec(because I had it laying around) and the car started boosting almost 2 psi higher with no other changes. Thus showing the Apexi is much more free flowing. However, it is loud. I removed the Pettit resonated midpipe and installed a Bonez Hi-flow cat(dont like the car to stink) and it is still too loud.
I guess I should have clarified that I preferred responses from those with either a single setup or true non-sequential with the door removed from the manifold. With the sequential setup almost any exhaust is pretty quiet.

Are you going to deals gap? I will have my car there with the Tanabe I mentioned earlier if you want to compare it to a car running the Greddy SP. I am willing to bet this exhaust is just as quiet if not quieter than an old Greddy SP.

Yes, I will be at DGRR but will have already ordered an exhaust by that point. Looks like I am just going back with the SP, I already know what to expect with it and will just live with the looks.

I know exactly what you mean. I owned a Greddy PE many years ago. It was a fantastic sounding exhaust, but the cannister and tip was even larger than the SP. I got rid of it because of the size. I tried a few different exhaust and have found that I like sound and looks of the St. May's dual. It is louder than the Greddy PE, but not as loud as some of the others I tried.

I didn't think either the pettit or bonez piece were particularly quiet. I'm currently running the bonez and the RB duals and while it isn't overly loud, like you said, it's not quiet. I'm expecting the rx7store resonated mp to be much quieter.

fyi I wouldn't expect "much" quieter. It is maybe a little quieter. The tone is nicer with the extra magnaflow muffler in the mid pipe but not really all that much quieter.

Hmmm... Can you have the tip cut off and weld on a more normal sized tip?

I used to run the Greddy SP2 and now have the Tanabe Touring Medallion. Power is virtually identical however, the Tanabe is MUCH quieter until I get into WOT Boost passed 4krpm and then nois is the same. However, cruising is quieter with Tanabe.
Car is a single turbo with a routed wastegate.

I've had a few exhausts and heres my input (on a scale from 10-1, 10 being the loudest):
Apexi GT spec - 20 lol
HKS Hi-Power NOT silent - 8
RB duals & Tanabe Medallion - 7 (very similar)
Apexi Noir - 6.5
I think any of the last 3 will be fine. I would use the money on a mid pipe and weld on a spun cat and resonator. Its really a cost effective way of reducing the sound and keeping flow. I personally have the HKS on right now but am thinking of putting the noir back on. even with the silencer in the tip its a fart can.

A buddy of mine here has a Greddy Power Extreme on his FD. Sequentials, downpipe/midpipe, and it's very quiet. I think a lot of it is the PE has a BIG damn muffler to absorb sound. Not totally my taste in how it looks, but it DOES do the job well.

I have the Apexi GT-Spec currently on the car with it setup true non-sequential, its loud and annoying even with the Bonez hi-flow. However, I have decided to ditch the plan to swap over to a 62/66 and am going with BNR stage IIIs in sequential form. That way I get to keep the good looks of the Apex GT-Spec and it should be pretty quiet with the flapper door back in the turbo manifold for hte sequential setup.
