Sugar in the gas tank

Some mother ****** decided to put about 5 #'s of sugar in my gas tank last week,my insurance guy said his gm tech buddies have never heard of this causing internal engine damage? He would like a rotary specialist to take a look at it and then they will decide if it is covered. Just had it towed to Mazda and there tech and service writer said that this would grenade an engine!!!

Oh ya, the old sugar in the gas tank trick. That will take out an engine everytime. ******* bastards, you need to invest in a good garage.

Damn s why would they do that? I'm not sure what happens if you were to have started. But it couldn't be healthy for the engine. Sounds like there gonna have to suck all the fuel out and clean the lines, and tank.

As I recall sugar cloggs up or messes with injectors, and or causes the mixtutre to burn hotter, or unevenly...

That and a Banana in the tailpipe are old pranks, but I've never heard of anybody using them anymore.

The FD has a lock/internal lever on the fuel door did they pick / force it !?

Banana in the tailpipe, isn't that used in case your in a high speed chase you could shoot it out the muffler at the cops tires so they slip, well if it has the peel on it still.

2 reasons went to put some fuel conditioner in since I just filled up the day before thought it might have been bad gas, pulled the latch no gas cap and in its place was part of the packaging C&H

Another urban myth, in reality.

In some cases the sugar WILL cause carburetor/injector problems, but the old wives' tale of an engine "locking up" due to sugar in the tank is...well just that....an old wives' tale.

Do a quick web search for "sugar in the gas tank" and you will see that no automotive authority has ever made an engine fail due to "sugar in the gas", or more specifically to "carmelization of the sugar leading to extreme engine failure".

The reason is simply because sugar DOES NOT DISSOLVE IN GASOLINE! It stays in your tank.

End of myth.

Urban legend???

No way man... think about all those little fine grains of sugar in the combustion chamber grinding the **** out of your rotor housing as the rotor turns.

Wouldn't it just clog your filter to the point of fuel starvation....and then maybe a lean run would break a seal?

How did they get the door open anyway?

The sugar NEVER GETS TO YOUR ENGINE! It does NOT dissolve in gasoline.

Good God folks...this Urban Myth was debunked years and years ago......

well bajaman, I just changed the fuel filter about a month ago along w/ a full tune. I jumped fuel pump and there was all kinds of solid debris in the bottom of the glass container i put the gas in. I really don't know but i doknow that the car was running fine until this and that is up tp the tech to figure out. the fuel door was forced open

Oh, it will DEFINITELY clog up your fuel pump's filter screen, it just cakes right over it. Sugar in the gas tank is NOT a good thing, it WILL stop an engine but only because of no fuel flow.

Well I really don't know what to say other then the service advisor at Mazda and there rotary tech told me that it could cause extensive internal damage? Not trying to start anything just relaying what I have been told. So maybe urban legend 101 is still being taught in rotary school?

Hey, I am no expert either and am not trying to start anything...I think it sucks that your car is not running, mine isn't either right now.....sigh.

But.....unless you KNOW the rotary tech and service advisor to actually be knowledgeable, to really know their ****....then I would take ANYTHING they say with a grain of salt. Or sugar....
It is NOT urban legend that more FDs were killed by "service advisors" and "rotary techs" at dealerships than on the street. Lack of understanding of the 13BREW engine led most service departments to do some crazy ****, back in the day.

Just because it doesn't dissolve in gasoline doesn't mean it won't get sucked through the fuel lines lol. It most likely won't ever make it through the fuel filter tho.

Sugar in the gas tank is a urban legend. It sits in the bottom of the tank like sand.

I recommend you pull the tank, flush it out and put in a new fuel filter.

That is it...

Think about this:

So the "fine sugar grains" would have to make it through the fuel pump screen, through the fuel filter, then through the very fine screen on the injectors, through the injector nozzle into the engine.

Not gonna happen.

If the sugar DID happen to make it through all the filtering the very minor amount that made it into the combustion chamber would BURN before it "ground up" anything.

It was the mighty Volvo S80 T6 that had to do the smacking. Alas, the FD has been sitting idle since January.
I just need to get off my *** and pull the damned engine.....anyone want to help?

Sugar leaves wicked carbon buildup in motors which equal hot spots... that's how that **** kills engines
