stock turbos removed / need answers and opinions
back story..... i had a exhaust leak around the turbos, it boosted perfect...10-8-10
so i replaced the dp gasket and y-pipe gaskets...still had the leak....
so i removed the turbos and i think i might of found the leak....
in the pic below circled in blue...there was a bolt missing
.....you think that would of been the leak????
on the manifold in the pic below, the door opens fine
.....is it normal to be loose, to wiggle side to side????
and the cracks (looks like only one) think it looks pretty good...what do you think??
and finally you think i should port my wastegate since the turbos are off....
is it necessary for sequential .... or just non-sequential???
and should i convert to non-sequential...was reading something about this over on fd3s.net ..... http://www.fd3s.net/non-sequential.html
because of my mods....
mods...dp, intake, v-mount ic, and planning on getting full exhaust
thanks

Port your wastegate. It is a good idea for either situation. The debate between sequential and non sequential is never ending. I personally think a street driven car will not benefit much from a non seq conversion, since much of your driving is below 4000 rpm.
Plus, you have had a perfect boost pattern..... which means things are working great. Dont mess with them.

Everything is normal except the missing bolt.
I suggest you leave it sequential, at least until it's not boosting properly.
Port the wastegate and install a boost controller if you have any doubt about supporting future mods.

yeah i've got a boost controller...(greddy profec b spec 2)
i'll take it apart tomorrow , port the wastegate...
that bolt that was missing ...im assuming that was the exhaust leak ...one of the other bolts were loose also....
also bolts came right off ...after soaking over night with pb blaster...tight space to maneuver them bastards out of there....

yep. i just found i had the same problem. lost one of those same bolts. its funny though, i didn't actually lose it. it had fallen out, but got stuck sitting on top of the manifold...so i didn't need to find a new one.
port the wastegate while you have the turbos off. its very easy (depending on if you have the right tools!) all you need is some sort of rotary tool & a carbine grinder bit. i didn't have a carbine bit, so i did it with a shitty sears metal grinder bit - it worked, but it took 45 minutes.

your wastegate has the exact same size/location crack that mine did. i grinded my wastegate so it is just a hairline smaller than the flapper.
i've put about 400 miles on the car now and it's running great with no boost creep!
i'm sure it's still fine even with that crack.

did the porting this weekend (took about an hour)
ended up using a dremel (i already had a carbide bit)
and used a grinding stone (on the dremel) to smooth it all out...
don't think it came out all that bad....
havn't got around to putting the turbos back on ( been battling the flu)
