Stock rx7 vs stock.....

ok daft question but over here in the uk we dont get many mitsubishi galant vr-4 v6 twin turbos, heard they were fast but cant find any solid figures on them, thought you guys would know!

some bloke wants a race so which would win, stock rx7 (apart from street port and downpipe, cat back)

or the stock galant?

whats the actual figures of the galant??

I believe those put out 280 hp but arnt very quick off the line, I think they only come as four doors and are 2 heavy. I think u should be able to take him, should be a good race, you def wont get killed at least. GOOD LUCK

Thumbs up

Where can I see the video (of the above, FD v.s. EVO)? Plus, will you post a video of your race? Good luck!

FD vs VR4

You should beat him easily enough. They aren't very fast stock. Same goes for the 3000GT (same engine, more weight)

They are a heavy car ~1400kg, so once you are moving you will be alright. The only advantage he has is 4wd, so he may get a good start on you.

That said, the Mitsi 4wd gearboxes are not very strong, and well known to break at the drags, or shifting hard into 3rd, so he may launch nicely.

The Escort will be a different story. I think you will most probably lose that one..

Yeah you should be able to beat it. Your car is a lot lighter with comparable HP.

What kind of FD owner are you to think that some turbocharged galant is going to be able to take you?
(unless of course you are a horrible driver), there arent much on the streets that can take an FD. Do you honestly think that 3rd gen rx-7s would be selling for what they are selling for if a galant could beat it!

I thought the Galant VR4 had a turbo Inline 6 with 200-210 HP. At least over here it does. This was a 91-93 model I believe. It had the Eclipse turbo motor. A little under 7 seconds to 60, low 15s 1/4 mile

am i wrong?

You are ignorant if you think a stock FD is a street monster. Assuming equal drivers, you will get beat from a stop or a roll by:

*LS-1 Camaro
*C5 Corvette
*MKIV Supra
*Mustang Cobra
*Mitsu 3000 GT VR-4
*Mitsu Lancer Evo

You will have a tough time with:

*late model Mustang GT
*last gen 300ZX
*new Neon Turbo!

not an evo, i've raced one of these myself, sure they accelerate faster, but their top speed is only 150, so i was doing close to 140 when he was still at 120ish!

look at this website: (it reassured me so at least i'll win unless something goes wrong!)

http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/html/galant.html

and beat by a supra tt??? i've never seen that, its always pretty even, their acceleration figures are slower etc.

It's sick but the new Neon turbo has hit 13s and trapped over 100 mph in every car mag. Sickening. That would be a VERY tough race for a stock FD.

It's getting to the point where you have to have some decent mods to your FD to maintain street supremacy -- the modern horsepower wars are getting insane!

first off, i think the 3000gt's are TT v6's correct? the only TT I-6's that i know of are in the supra and the skyline?

i also thought the galant VR4 was the same engine as the 3000gt, but it's not (at least not in '91), it's the same as the eclipse GSX. the eclipses came with inline 4's, not 6 cylinders. the newer ones are V6's. here's a review of the 91 galant vr4
this article quotes them at 195 HP. where did anyone read they have (had) 280hp? not trying to argue, just wondering what year/market?

edited to say: the above mentioned video is BADASS if you have modem (like i do) then find a friend with broadband and d/l that **** and burn it on a cd, it's very worth it. "the skyline is very fast" "but the rx7 is very fast too!"

I know it out performs my stock supra. Stock for Stock my 7 would beat my supra in every category except 100+ acceleration.

Every race I've had, (about 6) with a supra has been the same story. 0-80 car length ahead. 80-1xx car length behind and fadeing.

Rx-7 is a sprinter with amazing handeling. Track races that kind of proformance really shines stock to stock. Stoplight push peadle and go races, you'll get most things to 80. After 80/90 just not quite enough engine.

it's also easier to launch the seven, picks up acceleration quicker, and feels much more stable. Believe me if the Rx-7 had a bullet proof motor it would sell for probably twice as much as a supra...and this is from a supra owner!
