Stock mount IC Question

I would like to replace my IC as well, and do not want to go the FMIC route again. What do you guys think of the stock mount Greddy that RX-7.com sells, the Blitz that Racing beat sells, and the medium size IC's that M2 sells.
Thanks,

Here read this: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/i...olers.html#THE

People on the board generally like the M2 Med the best. At least from what I remember. I have the ASP/M2 large hehe

there's so many threads on IC it's almost too much to read. i recently bought the greddy smic from rx7.com. my reasons for getting it was

1. it fits easily - works with standard battery, etc.
2. it's carb ok so the cops can't bust me for it
3. fits with my efini y-pipe
4. don't need any other parts besides the IC kit. think some of the other ones you need to get the elbow.
i'm not planning on running too much boost, so it meets my needs.

it doesn't come with a nice duct, so there's a gap, but i can live with it.

overall i see slight decrease in temp, but hard to tell since the temp sensor gets soaked.

Don't forget the PFS or Pettit SMICs. The nice thing about the Pettit Cool Charge II and the PFS are you don't have to move your battery and you can use the stock elbow and cross-over tube (or Efini y-pipe). Unless you're looking to run 14-15 psi daily, either of these will work great.

I know someone with the Blitz SMIC and they are not happy with it.

The blitz is barely two times the size of stock. I've had more than one friend try it, and move to another SMIC. I've got the PFS system w/intake, and I love it.

I may be going single soon, and will be selling both. Even if not from me, you'd still be happy with the PFS one. Peter is a dousche, but the IC is nice.

To me that Greddy smic seems just a bit bigger than the stock IC...Personally I'd go with the M2 Med or Large.

I'm modifying my stock airbox and keeping it and the stock battery location. Are there any SMIC's besides the Blitz that will work?

I have the Blitz SMIC and I'm very pleased with it.

Just think about what you want to get out of your car. If you plan on keeping the air pump, then some SMIC's will not work for what you need.

The Greddy and the Blitz are the only ones that will fit with the stock intake box.

Doesn't SR Motorsports have a stock mount which works with the stock intake?

Yep but it's small. I used to think I wanted to get a smaller SMIC and keep the intake box. I've changed my mind over time....

Just FYI: When I was getting my FD smog certed late last year, the first place I took it to told me they needed the CARB cert number in order to pass. When I inquired to Tripoint (who I got the IC from) for the number, they told me that CARB had no cert number for Greddy, and that the IC was not CARB legal at this time. Luckily I found another place that saw there was no influence on emissions due to the IC, so I passed the visual.

it doesn't come with a nice duct, so there's a gap, but i can live with it.
Up to you, but I can guarantee that you'll see an improvement in temps if you seal that "gap" between the stock IC duct and the IC. Otherwise most of the airflow will simply go around the IC rather than through it.

No need to take anyone's word for it, you can find all the CARB EOs at the Air Resources Board website:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/devices.htm

The Greddy SMIC has EO#D-284-2 under the "Trust" brand. The only other I/C with an EO# is the HKS FMIC (#D-186-21).

Yet another reason why this list is such a great resource. Figured there was something screwy with Tripoint's explanation, but I was in a hurry to get smog certed. Thanx, Patriick.

thanks patriick, you beat me to it. that site is pretty cool for looking up all the carb stuff. what pisses me off is that K&N filters are exempt yet pretty much all the other intakes are not, when they are the same for all practical purposes.

so kento, what did you use for filling in the gap?

so the blitz and greddy units are to small? I plan to buy one after I have decided on either the M2 intake kit or the Pettit Intake system, so my airbox should not be an issue.
Does the M2 medium require much modification?
thanks again

I basically sealed it up with some rubber matting (Home Depot and other hardware places should have it) cut to fit around the entire circumference. Sealed on the IC side with zip ties, on the duct side with aluminum rivets. Yes, very ghetto, but you can't really see it due to the big aluminum upper mounting plate for the Greddy. I'll fab something using a Pettit duct later.

The size of the IC depends on your needs. The Blitz and GReddy SMIC's are not nearly has large as a M2/ASP Large or some FMIC's, but they are definitely better than the stock IC.

As far as the M2 Med, I believe you'll need to either get different piping or "finese" the piping it comes with if you want to keep your air pump. Other than that, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I have a re-amemiya smic I have just received from Inukai last week. I will post pics later on as I have to pop out now. Will be interesting to see if it fits with my blitz induction kit actually.

The Blitz is a better alternative to replacing a stock IC but I wouldn't call it an upgrade, Greddy would be though. I don't recomend the Greddy for 15lbs like i've been doing. Well maybe 12lbs and/or vented hood and a gapless duct. The intake tube on the greddy runs too close to the radiator hose. I recomend a custom 2&3/4 x 4" coupler and/or Vitek sleeving. I think 15lbs requires a med like M2. But then again, I think SMIC's require a vented hood.

I am too. See my reply to Brentis' post on IC fan temp observations.
