Stock CD player
I have the stock FD cd player in my car. It annoys me that every time I start my car with a cd in it, the cd automatically ejects. Does everyone's do this? Is there any way to avoid this? In other cars I've had the cd just starts where it left off when the car starts. I wish the FD would do this.

try this
If you start the car in gear (obviously with the clutch depressed), the CD will not pop out (if that doesn't work then try starting it in neutral...I can't really remember which one works). It sounds strange but thats how mine reacts...

My Cd player is all retarded. It has the same problem of illumination problem at night and the lighting in the day time is very dim too. Then the CD players spits out Cd every once in a while when i turn on the car. it also has problem reading sometimes and just keep spitting the CD out, sometimes CD skipping , and problems reading burned CD. Maybe the unit needs to be clean ???? But not much worrys i have my pioneer LCD waitinted to be installed =)

Hey, what years are your RX-7's.. i have a 1994 with the BOSE stereo, and mine works perfectly.. it hasn't had any problems yet.. no cd spitting out, illumination is fine, it plays burned cd's no problem.. my entire cd wallet is filled with burned cd's.. u won't find a legit cd there hehe... But on the occasion it skips if going over a rough road.. other than that, it works great.. would they be different in 1993 than in 1994?

It does however have a tough time playing the few burned mixed CD's I have and some regular store bought ones. It also just decides to skip all on it's own sometimes without the car even moving.
I'll be ripping it out next Spring.

Mine totally sucks. I hate it. It spits out CDs at random...wait, all the time. It is rare that it even works, which is why I never use it at all. Luckily, I bought a Clarion Deck, but I will have to pull the entire stereo assembly to get it installed.
Bose != good. Sigh..I hate listening to the radio, but that's all it's good for.

God, you all are a bunch of whiney girly boy cry babies.......
Well, if any of you care to have your stock CD player repaired instead of bitching about what a piece of crap it is here's the address:
Panasonic Repair CO. OEM
ATTN: 16B-9
6550 Katella Ave.
Cypress, CA 90630
(714) 373-7500
Figure $50.00 minimum for them to fix it, which usually is just cleaning and re-aligning stuff. For chrissakes, the '93 units are starting on 9 years of use, and the technology is 11 years old!
Or you can go out and spend as much as you want on new stuff!
The stereo shops will see you coming - guaranteed. I guess if you are an audiophile it's worth the money. Me? I'd rather listen to the wind and the BOV.

The reason for the cd popping out is because it detects moisture (ie.humidity) and automatically ejects the cd. So, if your car has been sitting for an extended period of time and heat and humidity build up it will cause this to happen. I read this somewhere in a manual or on someone's website. Notice that if everything is cool (temp./low humidity) this will not happen.

When I had my stock Bose head unit in my 93 touring I didn't have any of these problems. It never ejected when it wasn't suppost to, it illuminated just fine, and it played burned CDs with no problems. The only problem I had was those stupid little ***** braking off.
Oh well, Its gone now anyway. I say just replace that bose unit with a good aftermarket one. I did and I heard the difference right away. Another plus to getting an aftermarket head unit is that many of the newer ones will also play CDRWs so you can burn a mix. Play it until your tired of it; then erase and re-write.

I had five factory cd players which all skipped excessively. I convinced the regional rep to give me a check for $600 so I could replace it with an Alpine, and I have been happy since. You guys need to remember these units are no longer new and would no doubt benefit from servicing. I would expect a cost of around $100 based on what I paid to have work done on 88.

Yup....just as I thought...it's stated in the owners manual on page 4-68. "Immediately after turning on the heater when the vehicle is cold, the disc or optical components (prism and lens) in CD player may fog up. If this happens, the disc will eject immediately when placed in the unit." So, there is nothing wrong with your CD player.
