Stock BOV into atmosphere?

can anyone tell me which hose to take off and plug up in order for my stock bov to shoot into the atmosphere instead of back into the intake? also will it effect the car like stalling at idle or loss of boost?

No effect. And I believe it is the upper-most of the two attached to the airbox.

take off the hoses that run straight from the stock brown blowoff valves to the airbox, and cap up the holes on the airbox. this will not effect your performance at all, unless your blowoff valves are broken.

There is no need to disconnect the CRV from the airbox since this doesn't contribute to the whooosh sound, if that's why you're disconncecting the BOV in the first place.

i thought it does the same as the top one, except for the second turbo, but i guess i was wrong. it makes more room at least.

So how does it sound? What did you use to cap off the airbox hole?
I want to try it out for a day and see if I like it.

You hear the whoosh of the BOV very clearly. Just use some electical tape to cap off the hole on the airbox.

i wouldnt use electrical tape if i were you, unless your airbox is really clean and dirt free. its not that sticky, and it might get sucked into your intake. maybe if you use a screw clamp on it or something it would work. if your turbos were to eat up e-tape, that wouldnt be good. you probably wouldnt hear the "whoosh" sound anymore. when i had the stock airbox, i used some loose bike tire tubing, and cut it to size, then held it on with screw clamps. also, those rubber things that go on the bottom of old folks canes works pretty good too if you get the right fit.

I had the electrical tape on there for a year before I ditched the airbox without any problems. But if you want to be cautious use something else. rx7speed811's idea about using a cane stopper is pretty cool.

I got a better idea

Just go down to your local auto parts store and look for 3/8 inch rubber caps. Usually in the cooling section. They might be called "heater caps"

Box of 2 will cost about $1.50 and they fit perfect.

Ok since I'm still not entirely clear on which one it is...is it the one that is like an inch away from the air box or is it the one that is maybe 1 ft and a half away and is to the left of the intake mainifold

It is the one that attaches to the top of the airbox. You don't have to disconnect the hosing from the valve, just pull the hose off the airbox.

It's the brown valve closest to the air cleaner box. Just plugged it with a step-ladder grommet(lol!) and it sounds pretty nice.. not an HKS/GReddy-like bird tweet, but a nice audible "pffffffftt".

Interesting... From an old-skool turbo-bike rider, is this supposed to get chicks moist or something?

Please see thread on why FDs are turning to crap...

Don't do it, yeah it is louder, otherwise it doesn't do a thing.

Yep it's pretty much all for show like windshield-nozzle lights, neon, and that other crap, but just wanted to see what it sounded like instead of going for some 300-buck billet BOV. Not really impressed overall....

i did it and put it back to stock. i actually like it. doesnt hurt perfomance at all and if you just do that you car will not turn to crap. cars turn to crap cause tehy are neglected. the first time you dont change your oil on time just sell the car, cause it will happen again. also to plug the hole use a wine cork and a hose clamp. works like a champ and there is no chance of the cork being sucked up.

Yeah like I was saying. If I look under the hood of a high performance car and see holes taped over and wine corks plugging holes IMHO it is turning to crap. These types of mods are pointless and it is just the begining of other pointless mods. Is hearing the "whoosh" that cool? I just don't get it. Do you want people to think you've upgraded your intake or to a single turbo but you really haven't?

To everyone that does this make sure to write on your sig line that you've "modded" the stock airbox so you can hear a whoosh. That way we'll know what kind of "mods" your into and not waste our time with serious talk.

Personally i live the noise a blow off valve makes when it releases the pressure. for thos of you condemming the altering of something in a car to make it the way you like; lol shame on you. One of the things that makes your car, your car is how it isnt like all the others. Sure the "whoosh" sound is a small change, but it is a step into making it your car. If the noise is what you want.... go for it

your right jeff. i took your advice and drove my car to the local dump and dropped it off. i too have, sorry, had my BOV unhooked so it was a piece of crap now so i took care of that problem. ok aside from the sarcasim i really do have my BOV unhooked and i enjoy the sound of the turbos releasing pressure, and also why does it have to be a single turbo to have that sound. what does an upgraded intake have to do with it also? when you upgrade the intake it still plumbs into it. I have the apex intake and its unhooked from that. some people like it some people dont, so please dont make comments saying our cars are crap because we enjoy hearing the BOV. My choice to block of the hole was to get a stopper, such as the one that would be used on the end of a cane. this poses no threat of being sucked into the turbos and casing damage. i picked mine up at the local hardware store for like 50 cents. so go try it out and enjoy it, scott

slopoke, you have an incredibly nice car. I have always thought the black was the nicest color. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with red. Nice and subtle, well done.
