stock air box mod?

In modifying the stock air box so it draws in fresh air from beside the radiator, does this pose any problems to a stock FD.

It seems that by bringing in more air along with the original setup into the stock box will lead to a lean situation.

Any opinions?

stock airbox mod...

whitekingsnake -

I just did this mod couple of weeks ago. I am happy with the results. In my opinion, the chief benefit is that you no longer have to worry about air-reversion thru the I/C, a known phenomena with the FD.

I did a test after doing my mod, I simply held my hand over the intake to the stock box (this was done with the transfer cover off)
and noticed that the car would draw just fine thru the new openings.
I guess my conclusion from that is that there is now the capacity for the engine to get as much air as it wants, which might tend to contribute to a slightly lean condition on occassion, but I am not sure. Maybe air is like water and electricty, meaning it will follow the path of least resistance?

Oh yeah, it sounds pretty cool, too!

I did the Robinette mod, basically. I only ran 1 hose, for now.
The chief problem with this mod is the proximity of the frame rail.
You only have a narrow area to work with, as the top radiator hose passes under and thru a relief in the stock airbox, and then really about half of the remaining area is not really 'open' because the frame of the car is RIGHT THERE!
